  1. Eh? I said I hadn't seen the interview, but read it. So there's a caveat in there that he might have said some other stuff on top of the quotes I read, but the stuff I did read was 'hopefully strengthening a little bit more' and if not 'Thinks the squad will still do well'. And it it these quotes that I was expecting to happen when we missed out on the signings we were after. So instead of picking holes, are you confident we'll strengthen the 1st team? Do you think it acceptable if we don't? Do these comments fill you with confidence that it will happen?
  2. To be honest not seen the interview. Going on quotes I've read. After saying that he then is quoted - "“The idea is for us to strengthen a little bit more and hopefully we’ll do that.” Between the two sentences not exactly a strongly worded 'we have to improve the first team' line that he was giving earlier in the window. Downgraded now to 'hopefully we will but happy with the squad if not'. Exactly as I predicted and a dumbing down of expectations
  3. And here it begins..... Said exactly as much this would happen a few weeks back.... Rodgers- “The players that I’ve got have been doing brilliant and I’ve got every faith that even if we didn’t get any more players in that we’ll do really well this season,” he added.
  4. Bunch of f***ing chancers
  5. With you 100% on this. Ie posted all summer of my scepticism around our transfer policy and with 1 week left it looks like (unfortunately) being correct. Unfortunately for us, the G&H scandal has given new owners more grace than maybe they would have had. What would people think I wonder if we hold sold directly to FSG? The whole reason we were sold was that paying £20m per season wasn't enought to elevate us back to where we should be and yet here we are praying for a £20m net spend. Added to the fact we have a string puppet in Ayre doing football related business when he has no experience and its no wonder we are where we are. Ironically though, I feel we are only 1 or 2 signings away from a cracking team. But I fear our owners don't have what it takes to get them. NOT having those 1 or 2 players though could mean the difference between 4th and 6th, such is competition in the top half of the table
  6. I don't think we will do anything in the DM position this window and I would rather a quality attacking forward that we've been after. However as I pointed out in the match thread (and surely it was noticeable to everyone) but after 65 minutes Gerrard and Lucas were f***ed. On their last legs, which was a bit concerning considering we'd had no midweek game like they did. Worries me how we'll fair with midweek matches. I think in the last quarter of games we need to bring fresh legs into the middle. Allen might not be a true DM, but anything is better than a non functioning one in a shattered Lucas. I also think that this new 'quality' attacker we are after plus the return of Suarez will help as we will have more options going forward and we will hold the ball up better and be able to counter attack better than we did yesterday. So not doom and gloom, it's a wonderful start. But the soon we bring in this new attacker and get Suarez back the better. Provided we do that I'm confident we'll have a very good season as I'm sure Allen (and even Hendo) can help Lucas and Gerrard when they tire. Next season then I think we go all out for a top CM, Gerrards replacement if you like.
  7. Delighted with that. Hard fought win and a good start to the season while we (hopefully) wait for a pacey attacking player to come in and Suarez to return. Pretty much a game of two halves. Brilliant for 40 minutes. Thought second half we dropped too deep but as Rodgers said we had to to counter their pace up front. My only concern was I thought we looked b****xed after 75 minutes. Lucas and Gerrard especially. Not sure why as we had more time to prepare than them
  8. I'll tell you why why we sound line Newcastle f***ing fans, because this club is fast approaching Newcastle status. One more season of mediocrity and we are f***ed. Suarez, Johnson, agger, coutinho, even Sturridge might all want out in a season or two. We can't keep relying on our history to buy decent players.as we are already starting to see this season. This summer is critical for the club and as per usual there are some on here who seem to be accepting of the mediocrity we have slipped to and owners who talk like a big club but act like a second rate one
  9. Can't beat a good flounce when you are pissed off ;-) Still, all true though IMHO
  10. Told you. We are a f***ing shambles, a mess. What the owners fail to realise, is chances are we will either end up with no one, or with a desperate/average signing who is mid-table quality at best. We'll have absolutely no chance of top 5 (nevermind top 4) but hey, don't worry, at least we didn't overpay by £4m for one of our main targets. Lets be realistic here - we all said what a massive window this is/was. And with 10 days left its a fecking disastrous one. Not because our signings are crap, but simply because we have failed to sign any significant first team players. Not to mention our best player is unhappy and wants out. It's a royal f*** up, and come the point our season is practically over, which will be its usual mid-season time, we need to let our feelings know, big time.
  11. Why don't we just buy Tom Ince for £7m and be done with it, save all this b****x posturing. We all know that, or a similarly uninspiring signing will be what we end up with. But before we do, might as well brief the press that we are interested in Ronaldo, but a couple of days later leak that we tried really hard, but the fee quoted is too big, so we'll leave it, stick to our principles, cos we are great like that, very prudent.....
  12. I've predicted these shenanigans at each step. I'm still seething at all the f***ing briefing going on before we have these targets in the bag. As I've said before, it's either sheer stupidity, naivety or they are doing it to make us look like 'players'. Either way, it's a f***ing holy mess. Missing out on another big target, ironically something we mocked Spurs for recently. All the while, our 1st team isn't improved one bit. All this talk of squad being fine but first team needs improvement and here we are, pretty much as we were and everyone bar arsenal and utd improving significantly. Both of which were significantly ahead of us last season. I'm a major cynic, but I genuinely don't think this marquee signing will happen, and I've said as much since the start of the transfer window. Not only are not improving but losing credibility all the while. Oh, but I'm sure there'll be something in the Echo at 10pm one evening in the next few days, where we are bidding for Player X for £25m , "but it's not dependent on selling Suarez,we really do want to spend big money, honestly"
  13. Eh? 'Could be poised to possibly'? Doesn't even make sense. Are we or aren't we lodging a fresh bid? Not only that, why do we need to lodge a fresh bid? Thought it was about persuading him to choose us? You know what, this will be like f***ing Miki all over again, you watch. Loads and loads of articles about being 'close to signing', 'trying to persuade player', 'a major target' etc. Next thing he'll end up at the other club he was lined to and it'll turn out we'd never even got past first base with the selling club. And we'll blame it on Anzi or his agent or some b****x.... Given our past experiences of 'let downs' and failed expectations of previous summers transfers, and the farces of Miki and Costa bids, starting to smell a rat already here....
  14. Christ, I dont even know where to start with that article!! We are reliant on one player (Suarez). But then goes on to say how we'd have to 'fit' him in up front somewhere to give a 'tasty' trio of, Suarez, Coutinho and Willian (so Sturridge as back up). Then goes onto say how at Spurs Defoe is a backup and are bound to sign another striker. Then goes on to say their reliance on Bale doesnt matter, as they are bound to replace him? He sounds almost desperate for Spurs to sign him, like he's trying to convince himself. Tool.
  15. Aye, this. After the Miki and Costa debacle if we lose out to Spurs, and this time a non CL team at that, question have to be asked. Some f***ing idiot is briefing the press, and it's either stupidity or an attempt to appease fans. Either way, not at all clever. Eventually it'll come and bite you on the a*** and that's what might happen if we miss out again. For all the joy of our opening win, and the resulting positivity, I still don't think our first team is good enough. Bar some heroics from our new goalie we'd all be citing 'same old story' about not having the ability to put teams to bed. I still think we need to add real quality onto what we've got. In fact we simply have to....
  16. If we can add Wilian and keep Suarez I will be VERY happy. Just f***ing do it Ayre....
  17. See, was thinking about this last night and here it is again - f***s me right off. That is, EVERY article I have read about our attempts at a 'marquee' signing contains this line. If ever you want evidence that the club briefs the press then this is it. It happened when we went after Miki and Costa, and here it is again. And when you know the club is feeding this to media for such transfers, you can be sure there is very little in it - if there was we'd be keeping schtum about it and trying to wrap it up on the sly before other clubs wade in. So, just adds weight to my view that our major spending is over (well, it never really started did it) apart from maybe cheap left back cover. But I guarantee when the window closes you'll hear all the nonsense about we tried hard, went for big players, wasn't for want of trying blah blah....
  18. Another 10pm briefing. Sigh..... Not gonna happen... If our net spend it greater than £10m I will be amazed....
  19. The thought did enter my mind too. I'm still not convinced our bids for Mikhi or Costa were genuine....
  20. Yeah but what f***s me off is that we all know that is what we needed st the end of last season. Here we are, just over a week from the start of the season and our squad is as weak if not weaker than it was last season. All that s*** we got fed about having a good squad and only needing to strengthen our first team is a load of utter b****x meant to appease the fans of a so called big club. Fact is, all we have bought is replacements for reina, carra, shelvey and downing. Really. REALLY? You are all deluded if you think anything but mid table. Stoke will be a draw or frustrating 1 nil defeat like so msny times last season. All that shir about being 'close' because of how many chances we make is just hypothetical b****x What f***s me off even more, is that downing is still even close to the first team. I mean Wtf?? As somebody else just said, we are aiming for the CL and yet have mid to lower table players like downing in the f***ing team. AGAIN!! After a whole summer to replace him. Jesus fecking h..,,
  21. I don't lie saying 'told you so', but hey, I will anyway. Before the Henrikh transfer fell through I posted my suspicions about it as all the bluster and public talk was coming from uk media, while shaktar denied we'd even bid. Then he went to Dortmund, and local media reported we were 'shocked' and weren't even allowed to speak to him. All Seemed very strange to me and smacked of us feeding bulls*** to the press. Then the costa bid, and again, almost to the minute, all the British media went with our £20m+ bid to trigger his release clause. And yet it didn't. More leaks to press and all came to nothing. I'm just not convinced we ae seriously in for the 'marquee' signing people keep talking about...
  22. Lets be honest, that's not any better than last season, worse if anything. If we don't sign any first team players before end of August I can honestly see us finishing mid table. Are people's expectations lowered that much that they aren't outraged to see as going backwards rather than forwards? As for this lets see where we are at the end of the transfer window, we've been here before and I honestly think we'll struggle to even replace Suarez, never mind improve on what we had with him....
  23. Will we sign this Costa fella? Seems to have gone quiet?
  24. It's all gone a bit quiet on Costa. I was a bit concerned that everyone in the UK announced all at once we'd bid £21m, which smacks of us leaking it out. Bit worrying then that AS reported we'd not even bid. Since then nobody has heard a peep? Very strange....
