Talk about shoot on sight. As a "world-class" player, he should know when he's misfiring and not waste every decent buildup his team has with a 40 yard blast into the stands. Fair enough having a go if you're putting them consistently on target, but after the 15th shot, he could have laid off it a bit.

That's a very good point and I totally agree with that. It was absolutely his choice to make, he made it and it didn't turn out great for him, but he still proved himself in many ways. However, doesn't mean LFC owe him the chance to fix it all. When you're at a restaurant, you get to eat. When you leave, they don't owe you a steak (TM Chris Rock). Not that we should make life difficult for Owen, but he has to be willling to go the extra mile to make it happen as well. It can't all be on Parry to whip out the cash, offload any players in the way, and carry him back to Anfield

Last minute - in early July? What about the fact his agent conveniently went on his honeymoon right after the CL final. If Parry had walked up with a new contract on May 26th, you'd probably say he was putting too much pressure on Gerrard and he should just let Gerrard and enjoy the moment. I'm not buying the Stevie not feeling wanted routine at all. This is getting off topic though. I'm just trying to sayign I doubt this Owen saga is all Rick Parry's fault.

I'm not Rick Parry's biggest cheerleader, but I thikn the Gerrard saga was mostly Stevie's fault. How can Rick Parry be at fault for Stevie not feeling wanted just because he didn't get a new contract within 30 seconds of returning from holiday, especially after pissing about for a year. Sorry, but Rick's not to blame for that one as far as I know. Now that said, I'm totally in agreement he's often quite inept.

The money angle just seems strange to me - just doesn't add up. Let's say we're waiting to progress in the CL and get that cash before buying Owen. Surely we could just go into (more) debt temporarily to get him back. Presumably Owen would increase our chances of getting in the knockout stages anyway, so it would be a worthwhile calculated risk. If Moores, Parry, Rafa, Stevie, Carra, and Rafa's secretary are all so keen on bringing him back, I'd assume the gamble would be taken - of course it could still happen. Even so, why would sitting for half a season be so bad? Surely it would be worth it to return back home to LFC for the rest of your career. He's going to get picked for England regardless because it's just how Sven operates. I read this as Owen playing hardball to force the deal to happen this window, which wouldn't be very nice. But I suppose he's just very desperate to move as soon as possible.

I'm not saying we shouldn't sign Owen because of that. I just got bored of parsing and re-parsing today's statements and wanted to look to the future. It's more of a tactical problem than a literal personnel problem.

Let's say we sign Owen. We're playing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Who do we drop - Owen, Gerrard, Alonso, or Sissoko? I'm not trying to go against the tide here (I just want the whole thing to be over soon), just curious as to what people will respond.

The error by Rafa part was general, not necessarily aimed at you. I may or may not have entered rant mode towards the end . But in response to the rest of your post, I'll ask a few questions - Were we so good in front of goal with Michael Owen? Note we = Liverpool football club - i.e. the whole team, not Michael Owen himself. - Could the poor form in front of goal have anything to do with us not having enough fit strikers? - Is it possible that recent events are unduly influencing opinions on our current crop of strikers?

Great, that's RM settled then... He's not better than what we've got up front. Unless we're signing him to make a profit.
