Assume this is all posturing by Southampton to reassure their fans that they didn't want to sell him and did everything they could to keep him, before reluctantly accepting a world record offer for a defender. No way we are that dim to negotiate so publically with VVD without also speaking to the club... after all Ian Ayre left in March.
