Keko was immense tonight. Pity that Gerardo was on the bench the whole time but the spanish team has a lot of very good strikers. What about Daniel Pacheco?? Does anyone know if he has been involved with the younger set ups for Spain? I think i read somewhere that Francisco Duran was playing for the U21 and that Miki Roque was not far away from being an international. Then we have San Jose and Antwi so we do have a lot of spanish players.

At the start of the season everyone thought we had too many strikers and that would be a problem. Since then we have one genuine striker in Torres, one that scores a few but can´t get a game in Crouch, one that always gets a game but more often plays at left back rather than attack in Kuyt and then we have Voronin that never seems to be more than mediocre. Torres aside we have one decent striker in Crouch but he is soon on his way. Kuyt will stay and play in his midfield role and Voronin surely has a 2-3 year long lucrative deal which he got when he signed on a free so he is not going anywhere else unless another club can match his wages. So now, if we let Crouchie go, we will need another striker. It is a terrible thought having Voronin up front if Torres get´s injured next season. No?

The important thing is to perform at top level but Carra, Gerrard and Owen for example all played for the younger England teams. On the other hand we have John Welsh for example who was extremely promising but never made the grade. That said young players who have broken through the ranks all have played for England and now we don´t have a player in any of the younger teams so some might imply that the future is not as bright as we might think. Strange though that we have won the youth cup last two years and now the reserves are topping their table so we are doing something right with the youngsters..

A quick research on the official FA site reveals that Liverpool do not have a single young english international!! (U16 through to U21) We are all waiting for a new Gerrard or a new Carra but our young english lads can´t even manage to get in the english setup. After viewing the offal I got excited about rave reviews on Nathan Eccleston, Stephen Darby, David Amoo, Jay Spearing and Adam Hammill. Is there no reason to get excited???

Just hope that Rafa resist the temptation of resting key players like Torres and Gerrard. Babel and Alonso will surely start and hopefully Aurelio. Any news on Finnan?

Metz are soon to be relegated Zak Whitbread, 22. Has got 23 games at Millwall. Millwall lie bottom in the english championship. Anthony Le Tallec, 22. 10 games and 2 goals with Sunderland who lie bottom. Does not seem to get a game recently for them. Darren Potter, 22. 8 games with Southampton. Southampton are currently mid table. Florent Sinama, 22. 7 games and 1 goal for Blackburn. Blackburn are in the top half. Was not in the squad vs Birmingham. Neil Mellor, 24. 3 games and 1 goal for Wigan. Wigan are ca mid table. Has not been in the squad recently. Scott Carson, 21. 7 games with Sheff. Wed who are the fourth team from the bottom. Salif Diao, 29. 10 games with Portsmouth. Portsmouth are fighting relegation. Big Salif is not getting a game recently. David Raven, 21. playing with Tranmere in league one. Bruno Cheyrou, 28. 21 game and 1 goal. Playing with second place Bordeaux. Of these who do you think will remain at the club for next season?? One additional striker plus Fowler seems to end the carreer of Mellor, Pongolle and Tallec. Palletta and Agger surely are in front of Whitbread and Medjani in the pecking order and Potter has not a chance me thinks. On a different note, has there ever been a player that came back from a loan and was a success??
