Everton will push us all the way. They have a solid defence, are very well organized and Yakubu, Johnson and Cahill will cause almost any defence trouble . And above all the entire team show great fighting spirit, something we lack in many league games. Freddie Ljungberg has said that the team he hates playing the most is Everton, because they battle for every ball, play very physically and harass you all over the pitch.

I´m with you on this one. I question the Wisdom of those who are responsible for signing this kid

Do you mean that Tom Hicks sleeps with the fishes?

The much maligned Sven Goran Eriksson, in his first season, with a lot of new players who individually (with exception of Elano) are not as good as ours, seems to do better

If it will be Carra and Arbeloa in the centre they will struggle with Heskey in the air and at least Arbeloa runs the risk of being outmuscled if Heskey is up for it (you never know whith Emile, but of course he will be on fire today ). It will be important that our centrebacks are wary of the unevitable flick-ons from the big man. It´s also important that we are alert on set pieces. This is a game that is taylor made for Hyypia....

I think we´ll go for: Reina Finnan-Carra-Hyypia-Riise (If Hyypia can´t play Arbeloa will come in for him) Gerrard-Alonso-Lucas-Babel Crouch-Voronin subs: Torres, Kewell, Benayoun, Arbeloa, Itandje

He´s still in pain and the specially designed boots to protect his metastarsal have not helped. He´s due to see a specialist in Denmark. This is becoming worrying. I hope he will be okay

Rafa will buy a central defender in January

He is also a regular in the Swedish national team, which unlike the unbelievably crappy England team regularly qualifies for the World cup and the European Championship -

He is so average that Juventus is after him. -

Yes. I´m a little bit annoyed that I wasn´t able to participate in the Led Zep-reunion on the 10th of December . -

Mellberg on a free from Villa? He could take over the back up-role from Hyypia. He is solid, a couple of years younger, quicker and can play rb as well. -
At least he says so today in the Spanish paper AS. Any ideas of who it might be?

No chance of Villa to Villa ?

According to one of the tabloids in Valencia, Superdeporte, Valencia will make a move for John Arne Riise in January. A bidding war with Martin O´Neill on the cards ?

In my opinion Kuyt and Voronin get far to much stick from some people on this forum and I think that both of them have done well for us in general. But if we need to sell one of our strikers I would offload one of them rather than Crouch, mainly because they are similar players and Crouch offers more in terms of scoring. Our strikeforce is not that well balanced at the moment in my opinion. Anyone of the aforementioned three can play with Torres and do well, but any other combo lacks pace or goalscoring ability or both. Swap Kuyt or Voronin for a pacey forward or a goal poacher a´la Fowler and we will have a more balanced strikeforce and more opportunities.

The vast majority of you lot are blaming McClaren for this debacle and many of you were critizising Sven when he was in charge. Hasn´t it occured to you that the English players aren´t good enough and that it will not matter who you put in charge of them? Apart from tactics, modern football is about speed and skill and how many English players have those attributes? Gerrard and Rooney. Maybe Joe Cole. How many English players have gone abroad and succeeded in Italy or Spain? Face it, English players are average and they will not go further than the quarter finals in any major tournament in the foreseeable future.

I would like to see Lucas play in front of Mascherano with Gerrard on the right and Benayon to the left. Blackburn of course is a tough team but Lucas is quite feisty and Blackburn will be without the injured Savage. And Savage´s replacement Mokoena, who also plays a physical game, was injured quite badly against Pompey yesterday.

Xabi & Torres have both aggravated their injuries

Was it the fourth metatarsal in his left foot last time as well or is it a new break? -
Of course we miss good players like Torres, Agger and Alonso. But I´m not sure that everything will go smoothly even when we have them back in the team. We should be able to beat teams like Besiktas without them anyway. Look at Manure. They can steamroll teams without Carrick, Hargreaves and Scholes in central midfield. They can play with four or five water carriers like O´Shea, Fletcher and Brown and still win games with ease. Hell, I´m sure that they would finish in top four with Slur Alex himself playing in midfield all season. And I don´t know why that is the case....

Van Persie has injured his knee in the Euro qualifyers and will miss the game against us. Unfortunately Senderos probably will be out too, so I guess that evens itself out

Dirk Kuyt has a hamstring injury and will not join the dutch squad for their meetings with Romania and Slovenia (Liverpool.no). Any news on this?
