Good (re Agger and Johnson) As Rafa says this is actually the best timed international break we've had in years. Much, much, much rather see Babel on pitch than Voronin. Regardless of position. With Babel you tend to get a good performance now and then. No so with Voronin imo. Could this be the time to try Johnson at right mid? If Kuyt plays upfront that is.

We were quite poor on set-pieces last season as well though. Albeit perhaps not übers*** at it as we are now. Could it be that replacing Arbeloa and Alonso with Lucas and Johnson inside the box for corners etc is harming our defending? (always think of Johnson as a rather petite player while he is in fact 182 cm, which isn't very short at all. TV-footage fools you sometimes) Be interesting to see if replacing Lucas with Aquilani, who most people would argue is a more attacking minded player than Lucas, will actually improve our defending. Don't we score more goals from the oppo's left side than right?

Would be a comfort having him back in the team. Now then, who plays on the left mid position for our next few games? Probably Babel I'd say. With Torres out, should we play 442? I like to think so, no one in our current squad can play the Torres role except for Fernando himself. N'Gog and Kuyt upfront?

Being the Devil's advocate he for a bit but could it be that our defensive slump of recent has something to do with us playing Johnson and Inusa as fullbacks most of the time? Not that either of them has made any individual error to mention but that they tend to position themselves higher up the pitch and leave our CB short of cover. I do have a feeling our opponents get more space around our box this season so far than last season. My other theory says our central midfield isn't keeping the ball as well and are failing, in some games, to bring the ball forward deep into the oppo's half thereby being more vulnerable to counter attacks. Or perhaps a combination of the two? What say thee?

'Recurrent health problems' sounds nasty, surely it's recurrent football related injuries, no? Always very suspicious of players immediately managing big clubs/national sides. Usually does not end well. For Smicer though I wish him all the best of luck. Always seemed a great lad. Many may not see him as a hugely brilliant football player, and he did spend a lot of his time here as bystander and/or injured. However I would have loved to have the likes of him as a squad player in our current position. Helped us winning our two biggest trophies the past two decades or so as well.
