Owens best form for LFC was when he played alongside Heskey but I dont think he must play alongside someone who will do his dirty work. If he did come back it wouldnt be as our main goal threat as he was the last time, as people have said, the team has moved on, but rather as a secondary goal threat and someone who offers something quite different to our main goal threat. Ridding Voronin, Finnan and Pennant if possible would free up some wages for Owen. The Vog has to be on decent money as he came on a bosman. Owen would have taken the opportunity that fell to Robbie Keane yesterday. Thats what he would offer to the squad. Guaranteed goals.

He would give us options, more options than we already have. In relation to formations he would allow us to play a more conventional 4-4-2 with the possibility of that moving to a 4-3-3/4-3-2-1/4-3-1-2 when RK/SG drift inside from the their wide positions. Only difficulty with that is that the Sky/Setanta pundits could well explode if we played RK on the left and SG on the right with Masch and Xabi in the centre.

Dunno if we would win the league but even the biggest of the Anti-Owen brigade would have to admit that he would add goals to the side.

If, by the end of this day we signed Riera & Owen I would be f***ing thrilled. Riera can only be an imporvement on our wide options and it would be excellent to have someone who we can expect to rattle in 15+ if fit, no matter what happened the last time he was here. Villa and City are the ones to pressure the top this season. However, its hard to know if they can up their performances against lower division sides, its easy to do it against the big boys.

We can win the league without beating any of them, but we can win it a hell of lot easier if we take maybe four from six against two of the other three, preferably the mancs.

Aside from the run of draws and poor performances from Xmas to Feb in 07/08 the area we need to improve on is against the other 3 top teams.

I agree. We have a much better squad and the youth set-up is excellent with some really good kids here at the moment. With Nabil & Nemeth making some fleeting first team apperances this season. I think its important to note that as we have got better, so too have the mancs and chelsea. Assuming the mancs do sign Berbatov today they again will have spent something similar to us (probably with a better net spend giving the crazy prices they get for ressies) in adding quality to a double winning championship side. Chelsea required players in a couple positions and have spent the money requried to bring those players in. The bottom line is that We have improved, but have we improved enough?

Of course they are arsed, quite frankly we are playing a team who have been better than us over the first 135 minutes of this match. The tempo is actually a little high for us to get on the ball and play it around. We are being pressured as soon as we get on the ball and dont have time to dwell on it or look to pick the pass. The only decent move we had in the first half was three first touches from Torres, Gerrard and Benny and any good in the second half will come from the same one touch football.
