  1. Well..I was'nt at all nervous until I read this thread!! Barca a good but they're not world beaters as this season has shown for them..however we are likely to meet them at their best but then we should be at OUR best too and we are at home. We've already got the job half done so it's in our own hands to finish off the tie.We score first and it's more or less over and their challenge will subside!
  2. I can't quite fathom Momo to be honest..like sabre above,I'd like him to offer more going forward than he does. He's a very rough diamond I suppose,a touch indisciplined in his play in that he's chasing all over the place working hard but leaving gaps in his wake. Also his timing is a bit off..he's often a fraction late in what he does which shows in his tackling and is a reason for being penalised so often. Saying that,he's a great strength and a good prospect but certainly a mile from the finished article and not yet in the Viera class! But he might be one day.

    Kuyt

Kuyt's work rate is great but he expends far too much of his energy chasing around the pitch imho and not enough being a threat in and around the box.Saying that,I like the lad but think he'd score a lot more if he spent more time higher up the pitch.

    Barcelona next

How often has this been the case for Liverpool this season! We are desperate for an out and out striker who might NOT work his a*** off for the team but who can put the ball in the net on a regular basis..like strikers should!
  5. Good points..we lost gerrard as an attacking force today because he was overworked trying to cope in an outnumbered midfield..hence a lack of clear cut chances for the front men.We never really looked happy with the formation today and severely lacked any real width to stretch their back four.Long ball after long ball too..just a waste againsr such a resolute defence. And what HAS happend to Riise? He was truly hopeless today.
  6. Quite right! We started messing around at 2-0 up as if we were four up! I never really felt comfortable even after we'd scored the second for some reason.Anyway..just grateful for the points but there were'nt any great performances out there imo save perhaps for Xabi,Carra and Sami. We still need to kill games off !
  7. I like Momo but I dont want to see Gerrard plucked from the centre of midfield and put back on the right! Momo is a super active player for sure but he's very indisciplined in his play at times and his passing is nowhere near the quality of Gerrard's.Momo is a good player but I'm trying to work out how we've missed him so much these last few weeks!

    Riise's effort

That shot was incredible..almost over the Kop roof! Never seen one like that before!
  9. That's true BUT I did say " when it comes to competing for the (league) title".We have indeed eclipsed everyone since the turn of the century when it comes to winning trophies and all credit to Rafa for that. But it does perhaps suggest that it's in the European game and in cup competition where we have excelled..as opposed to the EPL where, although we have qualified for the CL more or less year on year,we have remained well adrift pointswise of the champions.
  10. I dont enjoy seeing critical articles about Liverpool FC. However,I honestly can't find a lot to argue with in that particular article although it has to be said that it concentrates entirely on the negative side of Rafa's stewadship here. As regards the CL final perhaps we will never know how we managed to win that game..was it Rafa's influence at ht?or was it the fans who lifted the team to a superhuman effort in the second half? or was it some divine intervention? But we have to credit Rafa for getting us to the final in Istanbul which many journos never seem to want to do. The fact is though that, that was then and the two games against the a*** are NOW and we have had a thorough showing up in both, and that, together with the fact that we obviously remain so far behind the 'other three' sides in terms of football quality after more than 2 years under him, will always throw Rafa's reign here into question when it comes to competeing for the title.
  11. The team we put out were all members of our squad! The game just goes to show how far we are behind them both at first and second team levels. Saying that however..we had Stevie G, Sami, Fowler,Bellamy,Gonzo,Garcia,Aurelio,Xabi and Carra on the pitch at some point tonight which makes it look even worse! It was a serious showing up and highlights our deficiencies all over the pitch and throughout the whole squad! I agree with you though that 3pts on Saturday is what matters now!
  12. YNWA was sang also when the teams came on after half time. Splendid show of defiance by the Kop AND other parts of the ground as well! The supporters showed far more character than the team tonight.

    Peter Crouch

Respect to your opinion but I dont see it like that. He's a nuisance to many defences it's true and a handful at times but he seriously lacks the speed and sharpness to be a big asset in a pass and move game. And when we play to his strengths against seriously decent defeces,we seem to be somewhat inneffective.

    Peter Crouch

See what you mean but I think you have to bear in mind that when he plays we put nearly everything up to him either from the back or through crosses so he inevitably gets 'involved' more than any other player. Out of this service he does produce the odd superb goal but for this we pay a price..the quality of of our football and the departure from genuine pass and move football which opens up defences. I do think the lad is a useful player though..but never as a starter, only as an impact sub for certain games.
  15. It would be great to have Momo back however we've managed to get along very well without him as it happens. And what we must have learned in the process is that SG serves us best in the middle with Xabi so perhaps Momo will be on the bench coming on to rest the two in the middle as and when? Can't see SG back on the right now that Pennant is finding his form there!
  16. Top post mate!It sometimes makes me wonder what would become of LFC commercially if the anti wool element ever got into a position of running the club! It would be like saying 'sod off' and take your financial support to another club! And on the subject of loving the club and supporting the team..it's a fact of life that Liverpool have support in all four corners of the earth..including woolyback country..and that support is every bit as loyal and fanatic as it is in Merseyside! I know because I and many thousands like me move hell and high water to attend games home and away to give our support, vocally and in every way..and proud to do so!

    We aren't s***

Of course we are not s*** however we are not as good as we sometimes think we are. Most of our wins this season have come against very poor sides but when we get up against the next tier of teams who get in our face away from Anfield,we seem to buckle. We have a reasonable side but when games get tough we lack the steel, determination and spirit of the likes of Man U and Chelsea.Maybe this will change but at Ewood yesterday I thought we were coasting in the first half but once Blackburn got stuck in after the break, our soft underbelly was again exposed.
  18. Very sad to hear about Dancing Dave. I remember him from the old anfield.com of years ago and of course more recently on various other forums. He was a good poster and a true Red who always spoke his mind. May he rest in peace.

    Sissoko

I reckon the team at Charlton was the best we can currently put out..meaning Momo would come on as a sub to give a rest to Alonso (mainly) or SG if we are in a good position.Possibly Agger instaed of Sami as well but that would my first team for the foreseeable future.
  20. It seems to occur at Anfield quite a number of times in a season..and it happens at Goodison too as '...Goodison excercise'.However I can't recall ever hearing anything similar at any other away ground.
  21. Calvin is obviously another of those people with a pen who despise Liverpool FC because they have allowed themselves to fall behind the so-called 'leaders'in the Premier League. In terms of money and stadia size,he has a point although how much more luck than management led to the Russian pumping money into Chelsea? They were not even his first choice ffs! The irony of it all is that Liverpool are still by far the most succesful club in the country and it's not all in the distant past as the likes of Stevie G can testify by the medals won in modern times.Look at the haul (albeit not the PL) since the turn of the century..with the CL and FA Cup in the last couple of years for instance. Why people like this love sticking the knife in I dont know!
  22. I thought Gerrard was the ONLY player we had who would have beaten the City defence today. We'd be up the creek without him the way the rest are playing imho although I agree he was quiet at times.
  23. Sorry to disagree mate but I thought 'Boro WERE s**** ! But even then they had, arguably, the best chance to win the game and fluffed it.Just imagine if that had have gone in Our team play like pussy cats with no real drive and desire..and certainly no sting! Our standards away from home were put in perspective today by Newcastle (!) who managed a 1-1 at Arsenal where we had lost 0-3 the week before! And I hate to remind people that Portsmouth won 4-0 at the Riverside earlier this season if I'm not mistaken!
  24. I honestly thought Pennant would improve us..even though he was grossly overpriced. But the lad does'nt seem to give a toss whether he plays for LFC or not! He's just going through the motions imho..if he was a real emplyoee ina real business,he'd get the boot within a month!
