Liverpool have completed the capture of Athletic Bilbao defender Mikel San Jose. The 18-year-old central defender becomes Liverpool's second signing of what has been a quiet pre-season, after the two clubs struck an accord over a €400,000 (£270,000) fee. San Jose is highly thought of at the Basque outfit and was expected to progress to the club's second team next season, after a series of mature displays in junior sides. Bilbao concede they were loath to let a player of promise leave, but have wished him well as he sets about a fresh challenge on Merseyside. "For us it is bad news, but Mikel has decided on the choice of Liverpool and it was impossible for us to fight against a European giant," read a club statement. San Jose is now looking forward to the opportunity to link-up with his compatriot Rafa Benitez (pictured) at Liverpool. "It was a surprise for me but I have decided to accept the chance at Liverpool," said San Jose. "I am very excited but now I know that I have to work more each day to get in the first team."

Fantstic, the away fans will get f***ing wet when it rains. -
by David Prentice, Liverpool Echo LIVERPOOL’S new “singing” section of the Kop could house almost 2,000 fans. Fans who have asked the club to create a separate section for more “traditional” supporters hope the new area will be called the “1892 Block.” The historical link is obvious – Liverpool FC was founded in 1892 – but a spokesman for Reclaim The Kop, the body behind the singing section initiative, said: “The area is probably going to be called 1892 Block, not just for the obvious reason but because there will be 1,892 seats. “It will be a section that espouses the traditional values of fair, loud, spontaneous support that has made Liverpool FC and the Kop world famous. "Singing section probably gives the wrong impression. This is a block where supporters who are in tune with the club's history and customs can congregate - fans who understand the Liverpool Way. “If our support is to stay 'special', fans need an example that is home-grown, innovative and uniquely Liverpudlian. 1892 Block can provide inspiration, not just for the team on the pitch but for the fans in the stands, too.” The Kop currently seats 12,000 fans in total. Discussions are ongoing with the club about re-introducing a limited window sale for the new section so that under-16s and others without access to credit cards and computers will have a chance to queue up and buy a ticket. Reclaim The Kop campaigners advise fans who wish to move to 1892 Block NOT to renew their current seats, but instead fill in the renewal form, attaching a brief note requesting to move to 1892 Block. Groups of supporters wishing to be seated together need to staple all renewal forms together along with a covering letter listing all names in the group. Initially, current season ticket holders in any part of the ground who wish to swap their existing seat for one in 1892 Block can do so by registering their name, fancard number and current seat number with RTK c/o Somebodieas listening?

Paul Eaton 28 May 2007 Liverpool have moved swiftly to bolster their reserve ranks by agreeing deals to sign Hungarian pair Krisztian Nemeth and Andras Simon from MTK Hungaria. Nemeth, 18, and Simon, 17, appeared for Hungary in last year's UEFA Under-17 Championships. The duo are both strikers, although Nemeth also plays in midfield.

Rafa Benitez today confirmed the two sides had "almost" reached an agreement over the Chilean winger. Bolo Zenden, whose contract expires in the summer, has also been told he can talk to other clubs. Parry says he does not listen to Mourinho's barbs Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has belittled Chelsea's achievements this season following their Champions League exit at the hands of the Reds. Blues boss Jose Mourinho was reported to have described Liverpool as a small club and a cup team before the game. "I don't care what he says, I don't listen," Parry told Radio Five Live. "I guess when you've invested £500m it's a fantastic season to win the League Cup. He's welcome to his opinions, we care about Liverpool." Liverpool beat Chelsea 4-1 on penalties and now face a final against either Manchester United or AC Milan. Parry said he thought the atmosphere at Anfield on Tuesday matched that of their Champions League semi-final win over the Blues at the ground in 2005. "It was another fabulous Anfield night," he said. "I thought we'd never see anything to beat the atmosphere in 2005, but I think this equalled it. "It was very, very special and I think you only get these nights in Anfield. "The supporters were fantastic and the players and manager have done a fantastic job and done us proud. It was magnificent to be there." For us, the big prize is the Premier League Rick Parry Liverpool chief executive Parry admitted there could be security concerns if Manchester United beat AC Milan to set up an all-English Champions League final. "There will be concerns from a security point of view if it's two English teams, sadly," he said. "There will be issues we'll have to address. There will be a lot of supporters from both teams travelling without tickets, which the authorities will have to deal with. "A lot of careful thought and planning would definitely be required." Despite their Champions League success the Liverpool chief executive admitted that the club's ultimate ambition was still to win the Premiership title. The Reds are currently 18 points behind Premiership leaders Manchester United and have not won the league since 1990. Parry said: "For us, the big prize is the Premier League, we've made no secret of that. "Every one of us wants to be a Premier League contender. We're not quite there, but we'll do everything in our power to make sure we get there."

By Larry Neild, Liverpool Daily Post AMERICAN billionaire Tom Hicks and his Liverpool FC co-owner George Gillett are to meet for key talks with council officials this week, city leader Warren Bradley said last night. The duo, in town for tomorrow?s crunch Champions League semi-final return leg against Chelsea, are expected to discuss plans for their new multi-million pound stadium. One plan is to preserve the turf of the existing ground as the centrepiece for a new plaza, to ensure fans? dreams and memories can forever be played out on the world- famous Stanley Park turf. The council can expect to receive a new planning application for both the existing and new sites, which lie virtually side by side in Anfield, this summer. That will delay the opening of the new stadium until at least the start of the 2010 season. Story continues ADVERTISEMENT It will also send the cost rocketing from the current £180m to well over £200m. Although work on the new stadium will still start this summer, the Americans are thought to believe that a new planning application is the best way of getting their plans sorted out from the outset. As the area needed does not change, work can start simul- taneously with consideration of the amended plans. By seeking a new planning approval for much enlarged stadium, Liverpool FC will have to carry out a new traffic impact study. The previous assessment was based on a crowd capacity of 61,000, but if the stadium is going to hold between 75,000 and 80,000 people the whole process will have to be redone. There will be pressure on the club to provide a new Merseyrail train station along the Utting Avenue cutting to offer public transport links to the enlarged ground. The owners will be meeting a city council group led by Cllr Warren Bradley, council chief executive Colin Hilton and regeneration director John Kelly. Last night Cllr Bradley said: ?My guess is that Liverpol FC will opt to go for a new planning application. ?The owners are not going to increase the footprint (the overall site size) of the new stadium, but the capacity will be significantly increased. We have to respect the fact that many people live in the area and we will make sure that the impact is properly assessed. ?I can see the sense in a fresh application because they have their own ideas of how they see the stadium being used and it is much better to get it right at the very beginning. ?It will mean the opening being put back, but we will have a world-class facility in our city. The plans they are talking about for Anfield Plaza are extraordinary. ?They want to change the original concept and leave the existing pitch as a grassed area. They want people to be able to relive the moments of glory on the existing pitch."

Not making uck all up. Last season has gone, like it was last was last season. This season results are not the same if you compare. Take Momo out they have improved.
-
No, sometimes you dominate games and don't get the result. Seems to happen alot when Momo plays.
-
I've noticed a problem with Momo, and that is the team dominating games and getting beat. We never had a really great run of wins till Alonso/Gerrard played in centre midfield.
