  1. is this their version of our gerrard saga i wonder? captain very reluctantly agrees to leave and then does a last minute u-turn!
  2. we arent any other club though are we? united and chelsea would not have been hapy with his return. ive already admitted that abject failure was a bit harsh. but he was a failure, particularly in light of the fact that hes the clubs record signing
  3. fair enough, i dont think he offered nothing at all. i always liked cisse and was very sorry it never worked out for him. and yes he did offer us things from time to time. but he was/is our record signing and was a failure. i actually think hed do well at bolton cause they play more direct football. but as someone above said, lets not get into that debate.
  4. an oxymoron if ive ever seen one. f**king lazy and not having the attributes to play in our managers system is an abject failure for me
  5. in fairness, benayoun has proven himself in the premiership. cisse was an abject failure in the premiership, and that statement will probably get peoples backs up, but in my opinion he was very poor.
  6. i really hope torres isnt as weak as heskey. ive never seen such a big man hit the deck so many times
  7. the thing i love about kuyt is that he didnt have an amazing season yet he still managed to score as many as berbatov and keane at spurs who have been hailed as a massive success. i think dirk's gonna have a big season this year, hes adapted, will get better service and rafa will know how to get the best out of him having seen him play in his system fopr a year.
  8. im sure this has been mentioned before but has there been any suggestion that there might be 96 seats that will be left perpetually vacant in the ground?
  9. id be delighted if we got malouda i have to say. i think if we can manage to get good deals for bellamy and cisse then we could afford torres also. i think we'll have a good summer. no way the yanks want their first summer to be a failure whicle all the other yank owners are outspending them. yanks are far to competitive for that
  10. why exactly? i know why you love garcia and would be gutted to see him go but i dont see what the problem with benayoun is, hes a very good player
  11. the top scorer in the league this year was drogba with 21, he is effectively their only talisman up front. if torres could keep his average of 1 in 2 then hed get about 18 league goals which is more than enough, i mean berbatov only got something like 12 or 13 this year and hes being lauded all over the place. rafa's teams always contribute from all over the pitch, kuyt will score just as many if not more than his 12 from this season, stevie and crouchy always score a good few. some people seem to think we need to rely on an out and out striker to score 20+ goals a season. simple fact is we dont. with the much improved service i expect next season i think we'll score a lot more goals with torres in the team, particularly in those tight away games which make all the difference to the end of season league table
  12. the benayoun thing only makes me think that luis garcia is a makeweight in the torres deal. because we dont need benayoun unless garcia is leaving. they both play similar positions and roles in a team
  13. nearly every striker we could have doubts about if we are signing them from a foreign league. i can guarantee you if we fail to land torres, those who are moaning about signing him will moan about not signing him. people say hes not prolific but hes gotan average of a goal every 2nd game i think, for a mediocre team. i think he will do very well with us and i think its very imprtant that we sign a player of his calibre this summer. not just for our league performance but also to show rafa that he will be backed. we have to spend the likes of united and chelsea to compete, of that i have no doubt.
  14. Marseille battle Benfica, Bolton for Liverpool's Cisse tribalfooball.com - June 21, 2007 Olympique Marseille chief Jose Anigo acknowledges they risk missing out on Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse. Liverpool are seeking an outright sale for the France international, who spent last season on-loan at Marseille. The French club want to setup another loan deal for next term, with a view to a permanent transfer. However, Benfica and Bolton Wanderers are ready to pay big to sign Cisse outright and Anigo admitted: "We're working on it, but things aren't easy."
  15. i agree, its almost like creating a VIP area in the kop. a class system of sorts. who'd have thunk it
  16. the most encouraging thing about the mancini and torres reports if they are true is that apart from potentially signing to great players, it shows that rafa is being backed by G&H

  18. i think we do care if he has inside info or not, seeing as he's speculating about liverpool transfers. sp why dont you be a tw*t somewhere else
  19. from the independant. athletico stating they want to hang on to torres is nothing to be worried about in my opinion. they kind of have to say that about their captain and most important player Atletico ready to thwart Liverpool's pursuit of Torres By Andy Hunter Published: 21 June 2007 The Premiership elite are facing another summer of frustration in their attempts to lure Fernando Torres to England, with Atletico Madrid refusing to countenance the sale of their talismanic captain. Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been strongly linked with the 23-year-old forward who has a €40m [£26.9m] release clause in his contract and is considering finally severing his allegiance to his boyhood club following their failure to qualify for the Uefa Cup next season. Rafael Benitez has reportedly made Torres his primary target as the Liverpool manager seeks a high-profile goalscorer to rectify the shortcomings he believes were responsible for defeat in the European Cup final. However, £28m is beyond the budget of the new American owners George Gillet and Tom Hicks as Benitez looks to strengthen in several departments this summer and Atletico have informed the Anfield club that Torres is not for sale. The Spanish club are expected this afternoon to state publicly their intention of retaining the Spanish international.
  20. giggs has played his best stuff over the last 5 years. i know he plays for the scum but he's been one of the greatest players since the premiership started
  21. show pony is way harsh. the guy scores goals. end of story. i think hes played in something like 163 league games in the 5 seasons he playes at madrid and scored 75 odd goals. thats a consistent average of a goal every other game, in the best league in europe/ the world for a team that is by no means one of the best in that league. not too mention, hes the captain of his team and can clearly shoulder pressure and responsibility. I want him
  22. on that note, el nino will take the premiership by storm...
  23. id like to get 'El Nino' on my number 9 shirt
  24. i love little luis, have him on the back of my shirt. but i dont see him getting much of a look in next season with alonso, stevie, mascherano and lucas all vying to fill the midfield. that coupled with pennant, harry and the new winger(s) rafa seems to want to sign. if we left him as a bit part player next season his value would plummet and so would his form probably. if torres turns out to be the nuts then it will be good business. it might also explain why rafa would be trying to get in yossi as replacement for luis
  25. no he said garcia, with a big grin on his face. when he was challenged on that very point, he said, well there are lots of garcia's and listed off a few including luis. and then him, the presenter and graham hunter all started laughing. it was perfectly clear he was referring to luis
