  1. They win games against the average teams, which in the past has been our downfall We need a flat track bully .....
  2. The sell on clause came to light last year when we were "talking" to Arsenal - check this forum. I'm surprised people have forgotten it
  3. The more I look at it the best we can hope for is Barry, Johnson and one of Silva, Tevez, in .. that would mean we could keep Alonso Remember Alonso has a sell on clause so we wont make that much by selling him
  4. Somethings up with the money: As Tottenham have stayed up, that's a min of 16m (3m extra for staying up, + 3m more for winning something ) AS Portsmouth haven't fully paid for Crouch that's 7m owing = 23m that isn't being accounted for anywhere. Then there's the 20m Transfer budget So do we have 20m (plus sales ) to spend or 43m (plus sales to spend ) ?
  5. ALONSO IS REAL DEAL 21/05/2009 Real Madrid will launch a £23million bid for Xabi Alonso once former president Florentino Perez sweeps back into power. But Liverpool are ready to resist even such a massive offer and yesterday issued a statement saying the player is not for sale. Perez is favourite to snatch control back at the Bernabeu, with the club's elections due in June. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/more-sport/2...15875-21376268/
  6. thought Marseilles (?) had a 15m Euro option on him, sort of loan to buy thing - so it's possible someone else could get him for 18m Euro is his club are prepared to sell .... it's Van Basten taking over his club - could Babel be part ex ?
  7. it's a shame we cant get him and say Silva that would mean we're pretty covered in the attacking department
  8. That's the sort of player we want, but he's not winning it for them from LM
  9. Rafael Benitez keen to use Liverpool funds more wisely this summer Rafael Benitez admits he cannot afford to waste a single penny in the transfer market this summer if his Liverpool side are to finally end their long wait for a league title.Looking after the pennies: Rafael Benitez's war chest is likely to be smaller for next season's campaign The Liverpool manager has been at pains to point out in recent weeks the gulf in cost between his squad and that of Sir Alex Ferguson, highlighting Manchester United's superior economic power by the number of experienced internationals unable to force their way into the champions' first XI. United's financial dominance is undeniable, but Benitez, too, has enjoyed substantial funds as he has attempted to land the club's first championship since 1990. The Spaniard admits, though, that a repeat of last summer's mistakes – in which some £40 million was lavished on Robbie Keane, Andrea Dossena, Diego Cavalieri and Albert Riera, of whom only the latter has made an impact – must be avoided. "If you spend big money on a player and he's not a success, it's worse for us than it is for United. If they make one or two mistakes, because of the difference in money, they can still spend £50 million on other players. The more money you have, the more quality players you can sign," Benitez said. "We've been talking of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres for the whole season. We have good players in the squad but the experience of fighting for titles and the quality of players makes a difference. Sometimes that means money, and it is easier if you have it." Benitez is likely to find his funds restricted this summer to just £20 million, because of the club's financial concerns, plus whatever he can raise through player sales. David Silva, the Valencia winger, is believed to be his primary target, along with Gareth Barry, who Benitez is confident of landing for just £9 million, despite suggestions that Aston Villa may be prepared to incrase the England midfielder's wages to £75,000--per-week if he commits to staying at Villa Park. Benitez is considering revisiting January inquiries for Glen Johnson, of Portsmouth, and Tottenham's Aaron Lennon, despite both recently signing contract extensions, while he is believed to be tracking both Yoann Gourcuff, of Bordeaux, and Heerenveen's Daniel Pranjic. Whichever targets Benitez succeeds in luring to Anfield, Kenny Dalglish is confident the resolution of the manager's own contract saga long before the opening of the transfer window means each acquisition will be the right one. He said: "Rafa signing his new contract and Gerrard, Torres, Dirk Kuyt and Daniel Agger agreeing to stay is very positive. Sorting Rafa out early will have given him plenty of opportunity to identify the people he wants to bring in and I am sure he is working diligently to do that. "You want to see people coming in to help build on the season Liverpool have had." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/...his-summer.html
  10. Thanks guys Relegated clubs get a balloon payment and I can't believe the players who got a club relegated would leave the sinking ship
  11. Why do we think there'd be a firesale if a club gets relegated ?
  12. Downing Injured http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...l.html?ITO=1490
  13. So long as we keep Alonso it wont matter ..................................... so much
  14. hmm valued at 3 Voronin's .. wonder how he'd do in this league
  15. Does Rafa have ESP ?
  16. y'know that's actually harder than scoring
  17. used to be any decent player we were linked with Chelsea would gazump us, now it's Chelsea, Man U and Man City .. . the last one is hardest to take ... but money talks
  18. Having to sell is almost certainly the situation. I'd be prepared to stick as we're not going to be able to improve by selling our best players and replacing them. Out: Reira, Dossena, Voronin (12m) In: Barry (9m) Avail 3m If the reputed 20m is not able to get a top Left attack or a Striker I'd pretty much stick there and keep the money for next season Options for left: Lavezzi, Suares, Silva, Tevez Lavezzi would be my choice but that would almost certainly mean keeping Babel as striker cover Tevez would mean we could sell Babel use Tevez on the Left ( not his best position but he plays there for Argentina ) and also use Tevez as cover for Torres and/or Gerrard Tevez would leave us with the Babel fee for a possible left attacker backup ( if not Barry) or a RB
  19. If the higher number is true (1m), there's no reason why we'd have accepted 250k when we could have got more even with him going to Swansea
  20. How much ?
  21. anything over 90 wins it - TBH most teams getting 86 (hope we do) win it
  22. On a slightly different note, how good is Ancelotti vs Hiddink ?
  23. He the only decent Valencia player on show?
  24. possible, but not logical, Tevez say's his family are settled hence not wanting to leave the premier league and remain in the north west
  25. Whoa, game changer !!!
