Wharton has the passing that Grav doesnt, thats why I think you can use them both for different reasons.

Wharton and Rogers are two different players though. Rogers isnt a midfielder (6/8) he can play out wide but he thrives in behind the striker. We could use Wharton more, his ability to progress the ball in midfield, especially when pressed would be fantastic for us.

Virgil doesnt have to do much running compared to what we've asked Robbo to do in the same time period. Mo doesnt run back either at full pelt. He shown last year when he plays multiple games a week, it comes with a price.

I understand what you're saying, but at the same time, you cant risk losing control of the game in a crucial period of the game by bringing on players who are out of sorts.
