Well, short term - if he gets into big games he'll be asked to play in a more restricted fashion. In lesser games, such as this, he may look more exciting and attacking. Medium to long term - his game will adapt to way the team plays and he'll lose some of this "raw" ability he has now. Hes basically doing what everyone wants to see here, getting the ball and running straight at the full back, but in my experience of seeing young forwards develop (on tv of course) they all lose the raw "excitement factor" after a few years of first team football. Just my take on it. Regardless, hes having a stormer tonight.

Sterling looks great. But he also looks like one of those players that will get ruined by sloppy tactical management in bigger games than this.

Exactly. Its not like any other players can come out of that match with a great deal of praise. It seems its frowned upon to write off after one game, unless its Glen Johnson.

Ive just rewatched the game on MotD and I have to say, both the penalties cant be argued with. Think we have to question Rodgers after that performance as well.

Problem with that, is that most positions dont have scope for improvement on our budget. Downing and the fullbacks and thats it, and having those two in the team today shouldnt have led to that sort of defeat and performance.

Indeed. Im quite happy with the lineup - my excitement is only muted because a) its always a while before players bed in and b) we are traditionally slow starters. Quietly confident though
