Pepe Reina

Thinking about this yesterday and couldn't for the life of me think of 5 top saves by Pepe, and the reason I couldn't.

It's because his positioning is so excellent he rarely has to get dirty by diving.

He is the best keeper since Clemence of that there is no doubt in my mind.

His positioning is incredible, he also done brilliantly yesterday on the Cole and Drogba chances

Except it isnt.

When the ball is played back to him he often drilld it just above head height to an oppo player putting us straight back under pressure.

I think Dudek distributed the ball far better in that kind of situation

Saying it's "terrible" is ridiculous. I also couldnt give a f*** what a match report on ONE GAME says.

his kicking is eratic, rather than dreadful, as he often actually puts in some very good long passes with his kicking!

But from a moving ball, it needs work.

But he's 23 years old, to expect every part of his game to be at it's strongest already, is asking a bit much I reckon.

Dudek's kicking may be good, but he's a far more experienced goalie for starters!

Pepe Reina is an excellent goalie who will get better and better, another great signing

Well its just one example, I can remember plenty of times during a game when ive seen a poor kick from Reina.

Deffo an aspect of his game he needs to work on.

Definetly. Thats my point. The moving ball kick is a weak area. He often slices it or just doesnt get the distance on it.

he's a f***ing brilliant goalkeeper. and his job isn't to ping 60 yard alonso-esque passes out from the back. so stop criticising his distribution.

the thread is about his best five saves if you want to be pedantic.

criticising reina's kicking is like saying that xabi alonso's a bit sh*te in goal. it's not necessary.

Kev said he was the best since Clemence - surely we have to look at his entire game and not if he needs to wash his top after the game?>

His kicking is usually good, I think he was just panicing a tad yesterday.

Still wish he'd weigh up the danger before punching, though it's easier watching from the stands.

aye. As long as he doesn't whump it to an opposition player, 20 yards out, then it's OK.

I just wish Jole Hole's 95th min chance had been on target, because if you see the replay from behind the goal, it looks like Reina had it covered. Would have been an save of Istanbul quality

Even so, he did enough to put him off ;)

I think the reason he is underrated -or isn't getting the praise he deserves - is down to the lack of "camera" saves. Jerzy is ace at them, but not great at a lot of other things. Reina doesn't need to make them because his positioning is so good.

I remember particularly Betis away they had a free kick, which was really well taken and placed, and Pepe was already there to catch it at chest height because he'd pre-empted what would happen.
