CarraLegend Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 http://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/...l&TEAMHD=soccer Valencia midfielder Pablo Aimar is suffering from meningitis, Spanish doctors have confirmed. Aimar has a benign form of the virus which has no permanent consequences, but it is not known how long to Argentina international will be out of action. Aimar, 26, was taken to hospital in Valencia on Wednesday after complaining of a fever and severe headache. Doctors carried out tests and he was admitted to the hospital later that night after meningitis was diagnosed. The illness is not contagious and there is no risk to his Valencia team-mates. The playmaker will remain in hospital until his symptoms have gone, but doctors expect this to be 'in days' rather than weeks. The head of neurology at the hospital, Jose Tatay, told Marca that the length of Aimar's absence from the squad will depend on how well he responds to medication. "Aimar is stable and his initial condition has improved, but he must remain in hospital," he said. "In his neurological examination, a slight inflexibility in the nape of the neck and positive signs of meningitis were found. "It is a benign form which will have no serious consequences for the player," he added.
