Nunez Completes Transfer To Atletico Madrid

MADRID (AP) - Uruguayan forward Richard Nunez passed a medical checkup Thursday to finalize his transfer to Atletico Madrid.

 

Nunez, who has joined Atletico from Switzerland's Grasshoppers on a 1?-year contract, was to be introduced at a news conference at the Vicente Calderon Stadium on Friday. "The Spanish league is the strongest in the world and it's an honour for me to come here. Atletico is hoping for my goals and I hope I can provide them," Nunez was quoted by leading sports daily Marca on Thursday.

 

Nunez, who has made five international appearances, previously played for Uruguay's Danubio, which is also the former club of Atletico midfielder Marcelo Sosa.

 

Atletico, which is 11th in the 20-team Spanish first division, also signed Denmark winger Jesper Gronkjaer during this month's transfer window.
