Advice on Joint tenancy house

Split up form the wife last year, we have not got divorced and I refused to have my name taken off the house we rented, my current place is about to expire in rent and i am facing eviction due to a lot of illness and ambulances coming to take me to hospital.  Council have advised me to pay the rent at the end of the month as i have not been issued a section 21 or a court order by my landlord, even though he thinks he can kick me out without the 2 months notice.  Since finding out i have access to my previous house with the wife she is now ignoring any contact and will not reply to giving me my keys back.  Apart from getting a solicitor involved (cant really afford that as on Universal Credit due to my health and unable to work) is there anything i can do. I don't want to force entry and have made an offer to pay towards the bills and buy my own food, sleep in the conservatory on an air bed so i don't encroach on her space or her daughters, any advice would be welcomed.
