While you're there, buy a small dog, call it Toto and hide it in your hand luggage on the way home so that when you get there you can say "Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore"

BTW Eric - I imagine 2w there will feel like a dozen lifetimes.

Siberia in the 19th century would be preferable.

I don't think they even have electricity there yet

Presumably the dog will then bark its agreement, before being taken to quarantine?

Can you imagine how much I've been looking forward to it?

This has to be one of the more memorable thread titles. Thank God you aren't going there voluntarily.

What's your research? Cattle ranching etc?

Actually, from the one time I've been there I do remember that the steak is excellent. Remarkably, there is also very good Italian food there. That's where the mobsters hopped off from to take over some of Vegas.

Decent blues bars too, though that might be St. Louis that I'm thinking of.

Well it is sort of voluntary.

I'm going in to the American National WW1 museum to research relations between American soldiers and the British and French.

I've been planning this for about 3 years but only recently been able to afford it thanks to a research bursary.

I'm aiming to spend 2 solid weeks in the archives and get everything I possibly can to bring back with me.

In reality, Macca will leave you alone in an office for several hours before dragging you to New Jersey on the bus. Think on.

(the last post was a product of me being pissed and in reality I enjoyed my chatting to Macca's colleagues in their free bar at work and going to the German bar in Jersey with his odd Brummie mate)

1. All the PL  games are on NBC Sports Network. Any decent sports bar will have them.

2. Great place for barbecue restaurants.

3. Try and go to a baseball game or the MLS team's game. Kansas City Chiefs may have a game, but tickets are hard to find.

4. Visit Crown Center, Country Club Plaza, Union Station and Overland Park.

5. Plenty of museums and art galleries.

6. Try one of the riverboat casinos.

7. St Louis is not far away.

Don't listen to Macca, he thinks everybody west of New Jersey rides a tractor, eats straw and whittles on the porch every night.

That is awesome mate. Do you focus at all on how black US soldiers were warmly embraced by the French military? Wasn't it also true that it revived pride in the Cajun culture also because those soldiers were so valuable because they were bi-lingual?
