Get on The Culture series - you won't regret it.

 

Also get on Neal Asher's Polity novels, similar but in a more Hollywood way. Still excellent.

When I move to a new city I like to read local books, by local people. In Edinburgh that meant Welsh and Rankin. Didn't read a bad book by either of them. The Rebus novels were very good.

Read the business and the wasp factory. They were alright but you can the tell the dude is probably a conspiracy nut of the "adayinthelife" ilk.

Reading one of his Rebus books at the mo, they are an easy read so if you like detectives and gruesome murders I'd go for it!

An episodic, abridged version of his new book is available for free as a podcast through itunes.

 

Sounds interesting, if only from the point of view that it's an Iain M.Banks book in America and an Iain Banks one in the UK and Australia.

Back to Rebus - yeah, that's a great deal for a lot of quality writing. The Rebus books are superb.

 

His new one's out as well now isn't it with his new longterm copper character.

Can see how the Iain M Banks/Iain Banks issue arose, the cover text seems to suggest the book straddles both his genres.[/hijack]
