New TV - Remote Control Doesn't Work

I just bought a new TV, and very fine it is:

However, the remote control doesn't work. This is not because of dead batteries because I've switched the batteries from another remote which does work.

 

Is there a simple way to verify that it's actually the remote that's not working as opposed to the sensor on the TV itself?

If you have a phone with a camera turn it on (i would imagine it would work on a normal digital camera), point the remote directly at the lens and then press any button on the remote. You should see the remote flashing, if it doesn't then it's not working. Try it with a remote that you know works first so you know what to look for.

That pretty much confirms the problem is with the remote control.

 

I guess they'll send me a replacement, but I'll probably get a universal remote anyhow.
