Carpet measurements

Right, need some help if poss as a google search didn't bring up much

 

i need to measure my stairs as we dropped paint on them recently (don't think i'll bother with insurance) and want to get a cheap carpet to replace what we have. We may not be in the house much longer so i don't want to spend a fortune.

 

I have the measurements of most stairs, (goes up in a bend) but how do i work out how much i need from the shop? Not very clever with measurements and volumes
