"Errors" in biographies

Either somebody does not proof read biographies or some "mistakes" such as the one below are done on purpose. Seeing the amount of errors in data and stats that I find in most of these books I say it is the former.

 

Reading Rushie's at the moment. A very good book so far. Anyway here is something funny and not much of a spoiler. Rush told Chester he'd sign for them and soon after Man U tried to get him to join them. Rush however said he had given Chester his word and would keep it. Man U attempted to lure him a few days later but got the same reply. Another club, which Rush does not name, then made an illegal approach for him by offering his Dad a four figure sum for Rush to join them and not Chester. Anyway despite not being well off his Dad said that they'd given their word to Chester etc. etc. and the anecdote ends without Rush mentioning who the club were and it seems like he did it purposely to avoid them any embarrassment.

 

Some 3 pages later Rush writes "....and after having refused offers from Man U and Birmingham City".

 

Was nearly in tears laughing.

The amount of errors in these books is amazing at times. In his bio Gerrard states that Etherington scored West Ham's 3rd in the FA Cup final when it was Konchesky. How such blatant errors are not spotted before the book is released beats me.

Yeah but they are books written with the help of sports jounros, some of whom are Liverpool fans i.e. should know immediately that some facts are wrong.
