Flight Advice

I was supposed to be flying from Dublin to San Francisco next Friday for a holiday and back a couple of weeks later. However I now need to go the the US on business on Monday and will just catch an internal flight to SF to meet up with the others for the start of my holiday.

 

This leaves me in a scenario that I do not need my outbound flight so I phoned the airline to check if this was OK and they informed me that if I do not take the outbound then they will automatically cancel the return leg.

 

This means I have to buy another flight home from SF, work will pay for it but I'd rather get my original flight home with the wife and mates.

 

Airline KLM, agency eDreams, ticket is economy and non refundable.

 

Does anyone have any experience of this ?, is there anything I can do ? the agency and airline are saying there isn't but I thought I'd try you lot.
