Data/File recovery

My father in law wants to buy/get some software that will allow him to 'recover' his PC if it all goes t*** up. He's used Norton ghost in the past and is thinking of going the Norton route. I appreciate this is unacceptable and have therefore consulted the wise heads of YNWA for the correct solution.

 

Any ideas, he basically wants to protect himself from complete data loss if his hard disk/PC bite the bullet.
