Flight Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Brilliant post, copied from RAWK off a Manc. You know the game is in a sad state, largely due to foreign owners, when you can share a post like this with the old enemy. Lessons from History, thats why its important, it teaches us, if we listen. After browsing your forum, I was a bit shocked as to the current mood, seems to me that you all live in basically two camps. Those that are realistic and those that believe your past glories are relevant to today. Before we start, I would like to say that I will write this from both my Head and from my Heart, cos thats the two basic conflicts we all have every day of our lives, for those of you that dont want to listen, delete it, for the others, you only have to listen, you dont have to agree. History LessonHeart = It was only 6 years after United won the European Cup 1968, that I was still making banners with my mates, "Pride of all Europe" for the Stretty Tunnel. The same year we got relegated, broke my f***ing heart, only 16 years old. How the f*** did that happen, at that time I had no idea that could happen to us, impossible, the scars have never left me to this day.Head = Too young to understand, we had been in decline for the last 5 years, no succession plans for either the old manager or aging stars, the Golden Thread was broken and there was no one able to tie it back again. So started the years in the wilderness, frustrating, underachieving, but past Glories keep us alive. Then we entered the years of the Liverpool Age. Heart = They wont win it this year again, they were jammy b******s to win Old Big Ears [European Cup for the younger ones]Keagans gone to Germany and Tossack is a babyline b*****d with no one play with, scousers are finished.Shankly has gone, now they are f***ed. Who the hell is this Paisley chap, were did he come from, never heard of him before, more L-Titles and another tin of brasso to clean Old Big Ears again. For f***s sake, when will this ever end. What did we get, 1977 FA Cup final, cost me 50 quid to get in, great day, but didnt last long enough, next morning it was history. Fagan, he must be the old tea-boy or something, now the scousers are finished, not a chance, another top manager, I thought you had invented cloning or something, these were all clones of Shankly, it could go on like the Holy Roman Empire for a Thousand Years.Rush, Kennedy, Hughes, Dalglish, Armstrong, never heard of em till they put on Red shirt, where did you get em from, we thought it was an FA conspiracy, only letting us buy the likes of Ted Macdougal, FA b******s.The pain was terrible, we planned to invade MerseySide and burn it down, it worked against the Romans so why not you lot. Head = You had the "Golden Thread" which was never broken, each new manager kept it tied, never broke it and passed it on intact. When it got broken, which it is, you know it is, my guess is during Dalgish, that a whole another topic for you all I guess. Heart = For over 10 years, a Scouser Skip-Lorry driver with a great big f***-off Liverpool banner in his cab, came to our works twice a week, he took the piss everytime he saw me during the close season, in order to get me to bet him a tenner, then twenty, I forget how much it went too, every year that we wouldnt win the league. Like an idiot, I always fell for the bait, you know the history, I never won, it was a banker for him every year. I bet with my heart. What hurts the most is, that when the 26 years finally ended, I moved jobs that year and never got the chance of even a tenner back.I have hunted for him ever since. Head = 26 years before the "Golden Thread" was retied, that is a lifetime for some, an age for others. No club is too big, past glories count for nothing, only in the memoirs of the fans to take with them to hopefully a better place.United biggest problem is can our "Golden Thread" be passed on, cloning a reality now, so maybe old SAF could be cloned. Bet you lot are wondering where Ranaldo, Nani, Anderson, Giggs, Scoles, Hugues, etc: came from, dont blame the FA. Heart = Always wanted Liverpool to go though relegation like us and in todays commercial world, it is a lot more dangerous than when we went down, aks Leeds.Maybe you will take 26 years to retie the "Golden Thread", f***ing hope so. Head = If a proper Football Club like Liverpool was sent down, it might not come back, now that would be just another nail in the coffin of the game we all love.Where else could I get my fix, not playing Wiggan or Portsmouth or the like, give me Sheff Wed, Notts Forest, Burnley, Wolves, even Bristol Rovers over the money manufactured clubs that are starting to be the norm. Yes, United are a money machine, we know, but so are you.Heart = I hate Liverpool Football Club and have never felt feelings like it, in my life when playing you lot, hope the feelings mutal, I expect so.Head = But with hate comes respect, past history demands it so. It would be a sad day when the passion and tribal rivalary is no longer. We might as well chuck it in.Dont think your too big a club, learn the lessons from history and better to act now before its too late, we failed in the battle with the Glaziers cos we left it too late, I was part of all the IMUSA actions, but not enough of us cared or thought it would happen, the rest is history.Hope you do buy the bloodly clubHeart = Lets hope Raffa is the man to fix the "Golden Thread" someone has to, if he is the man, make sure he stays, I would like to look forward to piping you to the title on the last day of the season, at Anfield, with a Ranaldo penalty, that never was. What joyI expect you would like to do the same, but not at the moment lads I am sad to say, our joy, whosever, will have to wait.If any of you lot dont understand the true meaning of this post, then ask an adult.Enough said I think http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=211887.0
Foxtrot Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I actually knew a couple of decent manure supporters. This must be the other one.
Jim Price Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I've still never heard of Armstrong. Is he related to Geoff?

Bo Benn Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Yes would laugh my head off should Everton or Man U get relegated. However should they not return to the top flight, something very essestial would be lost in the way I see the game. The rivalry with clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Vila etc. will never produce the same sort of excitement for me. I cannot for the life of me see what good a change in management would do us right now. With the new ownership I am afraid we will start looking for quick fixes and easy success. That sort of thinking has NEVER brought any good to a club the long run.
