Liverpool are reported to have joined the race to sign highly-rated Danish teenager Simon Kjaer.

The 18-year-old defender, currently with FC Midtyjlland, has been linked with Middlesbrough and a number of clubs across Europe.

Reds boss Rafael Benitez is now believed to have sent his scouts to Denmark and is said to have been impressed by their reports.

Kjaer's agent, former Middlesbrough striker Mikkel Beck, insists that the Denmark Under-19 international has the talent to be rated alongside some of the game's greats.

Beck told The Sunday Sun: "You realise how special this kid is when Liverpool watch him and tell you he's good enough to play in their first team.

"Messi, Rooney, Dos Santos - he is special like them.

"Lille and Monaco were the first to show an interest, then Real made a much better offer and it was turned down. He is worth a lot more."

What we really need is someone to compliment Agger and some decent backup. Ferdinand plays way better with Vidic than any of the other Man U CH's

Same can be said when he plays with Terry. Agger is a ball playing CH, his compliment would be a no nonsense hard tackling CH.

So what style CH is Simon Kjaer?

Real Madrid went for him this past Summer and he was actually training in Spain on a trial. The price FC Midtjylland wanted was apparently way too high. Simon's 18 and a big lad. He's 189 cm tall and weigh 82 kilos. He was called up for the Danish U19 team when he had just turned 17 and lots of major clubs are looking at him currently. His main forces is first of all his work rate, his ability in the air and the fact that he's very good in man-to-man situations. He's also known to fire Alonso style long balls up the field.

By Alonso style I presume you mean accurate - sounds like he would compliment Agger quite well. Let's see him here on trial
