Guest Kaizer Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 A few stats to think about when you watch England-Israel later today. There have been scored 118 goals in the PL so far this season, only 8 of these goals have been scored by players in the England squad. Downing- 2Lescott- 2Barry- 1Gerrard- 1Owen- 1Heskey- 1 I guess only Gerrard and Owen will start so it does not look very promising form an English viewpoint, like I said in the other thread, I`m not sure its only McLaren that is at blame here, the material he is working with is not exactly shining of gold.
Benitez Posted September 8, 2007 Author Posted September 8, 2007 heskey is starting according to the BBC

Interesting stat.
Guest Kaizer Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 heskey is starting according to the BBC I had heard that as well but I could not really believe it so I played it safe. So its 3 goals then from players in the starting line up, either way thats not much after 5 matches.

There will have been approximately 1300 appearances by players in the Premiership this season. Of those, how many were made by those in the England squad ? The goal stat alone is pretty irrelevant isn't it ? Sorry, I don't even know why I asked the question.....of course it is

Neville? Cole? Terry? Ferdinand? Gerrard? Lampard? Rooney? These are amongst the best players in their respective positions - coming 4th behind Croatia, Russia and Israel (whose respective managers are working with FAR less than "material shining of gold") is disgraceful.

No they are not, most of them are extremely overrated and that is the problem. Before every major tournament we here this is Englands year, but it never happens because the players aint good enough, they should be good enough to qualify, but thats it.
smithdown Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Hope Gerrard gets sent off in the first minute and Heskey scores a hat-trick
hagi_complex Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 The Scots have just conceded a penalty against Norwich. 1-1.
hagi_complex Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 McManus makes it 2-1 to Scotland. 77 mins. Gowaan the Scots.
hagi_complex Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 McFadden scores a belter from 20 yards. 3-1 Scotland.

_00_deathscar Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Heskey should have got that on target...
_00_deathscar Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Benayoun down for a while, but fine now.
Guest Kaizer Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 (edited) England 1-0 up - well worked. SWP. Its also the perfect example of why Pennant is not included in the sqaud, I dont think he would ever have chased the space behind the defense like that, he would probably have drifted back and wide to be an option for a cross from the left outside the box. Guest Kaizer Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 It might be boring but it is the God damn truth, Pennant need to step up this part of his game, like it or not, the fact its not a part of his game already annoys me non stop.
_00_deathscar Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Whatever happened to Owen's finishing touch? Cissé would have been embarassed with that. It might be boring but it is the God damn truth, Pennant need to step up this part of his game, like it or not, the fact its not a part of his game already annoys me non stop. And you annoy the rest of us non stop.
