Our accademy team played their first competitive game of the season on Sat, and were beaten 5-0 by Villa.

 

Nothing on our official site, but read about it here I know performance is more important than results, but after being so impressive in pre-season, this is obviously a bit of a disappointing result...

 

Anyway, still doesn't mean much, we have a load of new and hopefully highly talented youngsters, it will take some time for the team to bond, and the only way is up...

Cheers for that. With so many new players coming in, it will be interesting to see how the team develops. With the local accademy lads and all the under 18 players that Rafa has bought in, there should be lots of competition, but also hopefully opportunities for the youngsters. In terms of the above team, I confess that other than Irwin, I'd not heard of any of the other defenders.

Didn't Charlie Barnett sign for Newcastle? I know he played a pre season game for them

Irwin isn't a defender either, he's a midfielder. Wooton is an England youth international (I think he's still a schoolboy), Kennedy came up from the u16s and Awang was in the u18 squad last year but didn't get many games

Nah, he was on trial with them and Blackburn.
