Rocket up Pennants and Riise rear this pre-season. Both have looked very impressive, Riise scoring, and Pennant showing confidence that we haven't seen before. They look incredibly fit and are deffinatly playing for their futures.

 

Pennant especially has looked something else, compare his attitude with Bellamy's, I expect more from the so called red fan Craig, seems I was proved wrong.

to be fair to Pennant he was looking pretty sharp at the end of last season... maybe he knew Rafa would be in for a winger and knew that Bellamy was off and was fighting to keep the spot.. but he looked good, especially in the CL Final. Not seen any footage of pre season, but if he has improved on then then he will be a great asset to us this season..

How many goals have been scored in te pre-season matches after Riise has pushed into a forward position and crossed?

 

Of course, that has never been a problem for him, it is more a defensive frailty that concerns fans.

And as much as I am impressed with JP's contribution, the lack of confidence in finishing still worries me.

While his finishing is poor the fact that he is getting into positions to score shows a big improvement.

FWIW i think Pennant looked pretty good in pre season last year just lost confidence when it came to the season proper. Hopefully he will keep his confidence this time.

I'd disagree with that - he may not be the best defender around but he contributes to what is a fairly water-tight back four (albiet as the weakest link in there). Its in the final third where he causes the let downs, wrong decisons, going for glory with his 40 yard hoofs rather than bringing other players in to play. And his one legged play generally.
