Top item on my German news email this morning:

- Merkel betont Notwendigkeit einer EU-Verfassung

Berlin.

My translation (others may improve):

- Merkel stresses necessity of an EU-Constitution

Berlin. One week before the concluding summit of the German EU-Presidency,

Federal Chancellor Merkel has once again pointed out meaningfully the

necessity of a revised EU-Constitution. The Chancellor warned in a government

statement that severe consequences are impending for the future of Europe

if no compromise comes about. At the same time Merkel admitted that no

agreement is yet in sight in the dispute with Poland about the future voting

system in the EU. The government in Warsaw is resisting the introduction

of double majority voting in the EU Council of Ministers and has proposed

another procedure that would allow Poland more influence.

I see this is on the BBC website

but not exactly high profile.

Is this making the news in the UK? I kind of get the impression, the UK media would rather not admit that Britain is as isolated on these issues as they actually are and would rather try and imply that it's just some kind of hare-brained scheme which hardly anyone in Europe supports or is even interested in (?)
