A few years ago, I worked on a TV programme and we carried out a long undercover investigation into Holiday Clubs. We provided extensive evidence of our findings to the European Commission, the DTI, Trading Standards and the Office of Fair Trade. At the time, all of these bodies were not aware of the particular problem that we highlighted and were unable to do much at all but I think we convinced them to at least investigate, which they did. All of our tapes and transcripts were eventually passed over to the Office of Fair Trade and we briefed them in detail.

One of the consultants in the investigation then instigated a class action against the company in question and I understand that hundreds of thousands of pounds have now been reimbursed to consumers who lost out, all in out of court settlements.

But, imagine my surprise today when I discovered that the law is now going to change to protect people more. A bit of a result really!
