Enough with the Premiership records, which have limited interest

 

BUT

 

Who has suddenly decided that the British International Championships no longer count as competitive matches????

 

Those who know me will not be surprised to learn that I have been tracking Michael Owen's progress up the all-time England goalscorers chart (ucrrently #4, fact fans) and those for competitive games. I was therefore surprised to learn that he had become England's #1 scorere in competitive fixtures last night. Utter rubbish!

 

He has overtaken Lineker, yes, to be joint #3 with Jimmy Greaves on 23. He still has to ctach Bobby Charlton (27) and Stephen Bloomer (28) - including qualifying & tournaments for European Championships and world Cups and the British International Championships

 

If the Home International tournaments don't count as "competitive" then I don't know what does
