Domestic flights in the USA

Booked tickets for Vegas in September, but the plan is spend a week there and then a week in Noo Yawk.

 

Up until now my made has been saying that, as domestic flights are so cheap within the states, we're alright just waiting til we get over thre to sort them out.

 

However, my girlfriends flatmate was telling me that we'd be mad to do that. She goes to states all the time and says we'll be completely stung if we do that and advised us to get that flight sorted out now as well.

 

This sound right?
