Power of positive thoughts/prayers.

Do you believe in positive thoughts/prayers having an influence? I do, I've seen it happen. I was in Istanbul and have been at Anfield often enough to have experienced collective will change the outcome of football matches.

Anyway, tomorrow, sometime between 9am and 12 midday, I will be in attendance at an operation where a young man could die. The lad is only 23 years old and currently has a very poor quality of life as he is on a transplant list for a kidney, the only thing that will save him. He is in such a bad way, his lower limb veins have thrombosed and the docs have had to go higher and higher leaving them only one possible access point left, in the neck, near his juggular/carotid vein. Without going into graphic detail, my role is to provide the graft that the docs are using tomorrow. This graft has been identified as the only thing of the correct dimension that's going to give this lad an extension to his life in the hope a kidney becomes available for him in the time he has left. If he doesn't get this, he will die in a few days. The lad will be awake during the procedure and knows there is no margin for error. The procedure is complicated and will either be a success, in which case he can continue with dialysis, or he will die on the table.

I can't give you his name as it is unethical but his initials are DY and he is being treated in a hospital in the North-West of England tomorrow. Please, though you don't know him, can everyone who is reading this give a positive thought to the successul outcome of this procedure sometime between 9-12. It's scheduled for 9 but there are usually delays to these things. Send your positive thoughts and wishes through me if you find this difficult to envisage as I'll be there in the room, hoping and praying that we get a good outcome.

If nothing else, it can't hurt, can it?
