Shrews leg end Steve Anthrobus

Former Millwall, Wimbledon and Shrewsbury forward Steve Anthrobus, 37, has been fined £500 for having $ex in a public place: a field in Brownhills, Staffordshire. He admitted outraging public decency along with Debbie Matthews, 40, who was fined £250. Anthrobus admitted the charge after making what his solicitor Stephen Thomas described as "a difficult call to his wife" before the hearing. Anthrobus came second in a BBC Football Focus poll of the Shrews' cult heroes in 2004. After this escapade, he'll win it next time.

Some great letters in today's Fiver on this subject:

"Steve Anthrobus received a £500 fine for having $ex in a public place, whereas his companion received a fine of just £250 (yesterday's news in brief). Did the judge decide she had suffered enough or did he do it a second time on his own?" - Guy Campbell.

"He wasn't called Throb for nothing, was he?" - Phil Williams.

"Am I the only one appalled by the falling standards of retired footballers and where they choose to partake in extra-curricular activities? These people have already taken over our motorway lay-byes and Little Chef car parks and now they want the fields too? If the government has any sense, it'll create a taskforce and hire Stan Collymore as some sort of dogging czar before the fear of stumbling across Martin Keown making the beast with two backs in a nearby meadow becomes a reality" - Andrew Crawford.
