BAGHDAD - A car bomb exploded near a park west of Baghdad on Tuesday, killing at least 18 boys on a soccer field, police said.

The blast occurred in central Ramadi, a hotbed of the Sunni insurgency. The victims were aged 10 to 15, police said.

On Monday, a suicide bomber blew up an ambulance at an Iraqi police station near Ramadi, killing 14 people including women and children, a local hospital official said.

Ramadi is the capital of Anbar province, the heart of the Sunni Arab insurgency in Iraq.

Earlier Tuesday, a roadside bomb blast killed three American soldiers on the outskirts of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

Car bombs and other blasts in Baghdad killed nine people and wounded 25 despite a new U.S.-backed security offensive in the capital, police said.

In the northern city of Mosul, a suicide truck bomber killed six policemen and wounded 25 other people outside a police station. Witnesses said the blast destroyed the station.
