People trying to impress others

On the bus on my way home tonight... Bloke trying to impress two girls by telling them he knows some Latin (this was triggered by an earlier conversation on The Da Vinci Code and Umberto Eco's The Name of The Rose). Anyway, they ask him to say something in Latin. The first sentence he came out with was actually Greek rather than Latin. The second and last one consisted of only three words (Latin this time) yet he still managed to create something that wasn't grammatically correct and did not make any sense at all.

More amusing than annoying but still. Bit of an idiot. And so are the girls for being so easily impressed. Anyway, the real question is why pretend you are more knowledgeable than you are and take the risk of being exposed by someone who does know more and makes you like a total t***? Especially in situations like this. Surely it's not worth it?
