the good, the bad and the ugly

Herbie von Smalls · December 16, 2006

i won a charity auction on ebay. and for the grand sum of £20 (incl. p&p) i won 120 7" singles. there's a lot of cheese, the odd nice surprise, disturbingly abundant mid-late 80s charity records and some downright muck.

here are some of the highlights and lowlights:

'whispering grass' - don estelle (a.k.a. anny road)

'save your love' - renee & renato

'agadoo' - black lace

'the floral dance' - brighouse & rastrick brass band

"you'll never walk alone" - in aid of the bradford city disaster fund (i suspect this is at the bandwagon end of the charity scale, given that i can spot on the sleeve: dave lee travis, black lace, the nolans, bruce forsyth, rose marie and, er... phil lynott)

'seven tears' - the goombay dance band

'only you' - flying pickets

'maggie' - foster and allen

'hole in my shoe' - neil (from the young ones)

'stand and deliver' - adam and the ants

'me & my girl (nightclubbin')' - dav'id essex

two jona lewie singles

two by eric clapton

'classic' - adrian gurvitz

'over you' - roxy music

a berni flint single

'hear the drummer (get wicked)' chad jackson

four abba singles

'i wish' - stevie wonder

'maneater' - hall & oates

'that kind o' girl' - jesse rae - completely forgot about him since his 'heyday'

two howard jones singles

'eye of the tiger' - survivor

'nice legs shame about her face' - the monks

'make me smile (come up and see me)' - steve harley - that's another 'classic' i can't stand

'the magic number' - de la soul

two grace jones singles

'tour de france' - kraftwerk

'united' - judas priest

'since you been gone' - rainbow

'love is a wonderful colour' - icicle works

'oh julie' - shakin' stevens

'ain't no pleasing you' - chas & dave

'some girls' - racey

'wuthering heights' - kate bush

'funky cold medina' - tone loc

'love & pride' - king

'footloose' - kenny loggins

'time will crawl' - david bowie (i actually like this single from that awful 'never let me down' album)

'hit' - sugarcubes

oh, and even though i'd never heard of them until today, an ep by the real people.
