Kuyt: Scoring goals is everything to me. I live for it.

"Last year I got 24 goals and over 20 assists. For me it is normal to have assists. It is unusual I have had to wait until this week for my first one. I hope more will follow," said Kuyt.

"I hope to do the same thing here in England - to score goals but also provide some nice assists. That would be great, but the most important thing is winning.

"It was 1-0 on Saturday, a clean sheet which was our third in a row, so it's getting better and better. That gives you more confidence.

"Okay I didn't score on Saturday, but I got an assist and maybe next week it will be a goal and not an assist."

Kuyt is hoping to help the Reds to a third successive victory against Portsmouth at Anfield on Wednesday and he adds: "I think we have showed in the last week we have more confidence and we have also shown our quality.

"We already knew we had it, but we didn't show it all the time. But now we are climbing the table and it's going very well.

"The most important thing is that we win as a team.

"I can enjoy a really good assist. Saturday was a good assist, but the one against PSV - the first one - was really great and gives you a good feeling.

"But always the most important thing is winning and it doesn't matter who makes or who scores the goals."

He doesn't sound like your typical striker, does he?

He's got a great attitude. Unfortuinately I can't see him being as prolific with us as he spends a lot of time 30 yards from goal and working his socks off for the team. I would love to see him in the box more.

He is Keegan Mark II.

Trust me. When he's got the 25 goals a season + striker next to him, you'll see he why he is a major Liverpool legend.

He's far and away our biggest goal threat this season, he drops deep to link up play and get it wide, but he's nearly always in the box by the time the ball gets there.

He would score more if more of our midfield got away from the 40-60 yard zone and into the box

Totally agree. He works his socks of trying to get the ball in the middle more than he should have to. Ideally if our wide men would play there and supply some good crosses in the middle we would have our new Keegan/Toshak partnership in the middle.
