Magic8Ball Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Rafa is still putting out an unbalanced side, seems to me some of his new signings are taking us backward. Anyway the question is - does anyone think we'll qualify for the CL next year ? I'm beginning to doubt we will
Guest RedLegend Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Hopefully. Hard to see us finishing above Chelsea, Mancs or Arsenal right now. Another battle with Everton for 4th?

jfogarty Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 That second half was as bad as anything I've seen for a while. Talk about laying down and dying. Anymore of that and we will struggle but I'm sure Rafa will sort things out
Bootle Buck Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 (edited) If things continue the way they are NO. The team looks like it has no confidence, heart or shape at the moment. Hard to see were goals are going to come from. Too many not firing on all cylinders. Reina, Risse, Carra, Gerrard, Alonso, Garcia all well below last years standard and the new boys like Pennant and Gonzalez offering little more. Kuyt being used as the lone striker won't work and offering little attacking threat against top clubs will get us nowhere. thats just it, will our home "form" be enough to get us 4th as that's realistically the best we can aim for this season It's more like Rafa's first season when we couldn't win away from home. Maybe another CL win can salvage the season. Edited October 22, 2006 by Bootle Buck
floyd the barber Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Oh for f*ck's sake... ??? oh for f***s sake what? nothing wrong with what he is saying, our side looks a complete mess......we play arsenal next away, does anyone think we will actually win, not least get a point there??!! cos i dont.....
Guest Pointerlou Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Well if we have to go and win it to qualify again, call me old fashioned, but I could live with it if we di that
realtarragona Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 It's not a guarantee. People were probably saying 'oh for f*** sake' this time about two years ago when it was questioned.
Guest RedIsMyColour Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 The thing is we have played and lost our hardest game of the season now. Chelsea away, mancs away, toffees away, bolton away. Arsenal have not played anyone good yet excaept the mancs.
Guz Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Yes we'll qualify for the CL. Our home form will see to that.
Magic8Ball Posted October 22, 2006 Author Posted October 22, 2006 I think the key to moving forward is to solve the Gerrard question Playing Gerrard on the right and the 2 strikers we've generally been using doesnt work anymore I think IF we need to play 2 strikers they should be Crouch and Kuyt ( though as I recall when Fowler started scoring last season suddenly ALL our strikers figured out how to score) for now I would go with 1 Striker and 3 man midfield and 2 wingers (451 )
_00_deathscar Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 But playing Gerrard ANYWHERE hasn't been working ... he's been utter utter s***, just like he was at the start of 2002/2003 season when houllier dropped him before he came back strong. Perhaps the same is needed now...but only if we could afford such a luxury - all our players are utter f***ing s***.

Clearly Carra botching his clearance for the 2nd goal or Sami/Carra leaving Scholes with enough time to make a cup of tea in the penalty area for the first goal is Gerrard's fault. Kuyt's tame header - Gerrard's fault. Garcia's anonymous performance? Yup, Gerrard again. Momo giving the ball away or giving niggling free kicks - you know who. But being serious - you are right - they're all s*** at the moment, which was my point Edited October 22, 2006 by Guz

Cooldude Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Gerrard just isn't doing the things that made him as a player in the first place, where's the engine? Where's the power? Where's the aggression? Where's the workrate? He's trying to play a more Frank Lampard type gloryhunting, goalhanging game atm, and it just isn't what made him the one of the very best He needs a rocket up his ass and start working hard for the team again
