Credit Rating

Does anyone on here know how credit rating works? I applied for a loan with a certain bank that is close to the barcodes at a rate of 5.75. I am a house owner for over 4 years, have no debt and have never missed a payment on anything e.g. mortgage, loans but they have come back and offered me 7.6. After a heated arguement with one of their advisors they explained that they couldn't discuss individual cases which pissed me off no-end. Do they look at your electoral register as I am still registed with my old address at my mums or what do they look for and in what order?
