Laptop buying advice

In the market for a new laptop, budget of around £1500.

 

I'm looking at peformance over mobility and looks.

I use it for work and pleasure. Work can include having demo versions of databases and running sql against them plus basic use of microsodt office software.

 

I'm not a big gamer, so that's not an issue.

Want a decent processor and 1gb of ram.

 

My current laptop's performance is fairly awful with a pentium 4 processor and 256mb of ram.

 

any suggestions/recommendations?
