CELTIC and Liverpool legends are to meet in a challenge match at Celtic Park in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for charitable causes.

Members of the Celtic and Liverpool teams which famously won their respective championships in 1986, will come together at Celtic Park on Wednesday, October 4, 2006. (kick-off: 7.45pm).

As in 1986, the teams will be managed by Kenny Dalglish and David Hay. Some great names of the past will also be on show such as Danny McGrain, Brian McClair, Mark McGhee and Peter Grant for Celtic, with the Liverpool team featuring Anfield legends such as Ian Rush, Alan Hansen, Jan Molby and Peter Beardsley.

All proceeds raised will go to Celtic Charity Fund, the charitable arm of Celtic Football Club, with some of the many beneficiaries including registered charities nominated by the family of Celtic legend Jimmy Johnstone, as well as the Marina Dalglish Appeal, which has been set up by Kenny?s wife to assist breast cancer charities.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell, said: "We are delighted to be staging this match at Celtic Park. There are some great names on show and we are sure the event will be a great success.

"Celtic has a rich charitable heritage and the Club?s charity fund has already raised well over £1million since it was established in 1995. We are hopeful that this event will raise further substantial funds for some very worthy causes."

Former Celtic and Liverpool star Kenny Dalglish commented: "I am very pleased to be involved in this match. I know that all the former players taking part are looking forward to playing their part and raising as much money as possible.

"Some of the lads may not be as quick as they once were but I am sure fans who are able to come along will see a good match and at the same time help some great causes."

And Celtic great, David Hay added: "It is fantastic to see players from two great clubs come together to raise funds for charities which are most deserving of our support.

"It is a real privilege to be involved in this match, which will feature some great players from the 1986 teams and I am sure it will be a great night of entertainment for supporters of both clubs."

Tickets will go on sale from tomorrow, Friday, September 8, 2006, priced £10 for adults and £5 for concessions. Supporters should call Celtic?s Ticket Services on 0871 226 1888.
