Book renovation!

I have a book (Actually two I'm thinking of) that are quite thick and through constant referencing have become a bit knackered in that the pages are starting to come away from their bindings.

 

Are there any decent DIY methods of repairing said books (One is a hardback and one is a paper back)

 

Methods that someone has used themselves and has seen work would be best..

 

Cue: 40 pages of speculation on what the well-thumbed books are..
