Big step up from pre season. If only Rafa had Chelseas funds when hunting for players we'd be laughing. This is what pissed me off about their goal. Mourinho regardless of all the money he has was reduced to hoofing it all game. Even the commentators had to mention it except they twisted it slightly by saying Chelsea are playing a great long ball game!! Really!! They looked void of ideas to me.

Anyway onto us. I thought we looked fantastic. We bossed the first half. Zenden perhaps could play a great part in our season from CM. Fair play to him if he can. I hope he does. For the first time ever he seemed to pick the right pass all the time. What a privilage it is to see a Liverpool team boss the billions of Chelsea without our first choice midfield.

I think this season could be special. Player like Pennant Gonzalaz and Bellamy seem to just slot in without any hassle. Our whole team looked hungry from the off. No bedding in time at all.

I'm pissed up but this could be wonderful for us.

Our passing considering how many new players were playing was excellent. Far better than the superstars of Chelsea. I'm over the moon tonight. We have options finally... and good ones to....

Thank god the season is nearly on us and we look fecking class too.

what has given us the extra edge is the love of the shirt that our players are playing with... Gonzalez waiting an entire year on loan in Spain in anticipation of his debut when there was no certainty he'd be given his work permit, while Bellamy and Jermaine both have had to realize how lucky they are to be with us after many failures in judgement in the past... it's this pride to wear the red of liverpool that shows up in these big games... while we don't have a problem with slackers on this team, the extra effort gets noticed by everyone and all the players play that much harder... that is why Rafa looks for players who'd do anything to play for us... let's hope this play carries on through the season because each of our players has something to prove in trying to beat Chelsea to the title

the new players assimilated well cause Rafa instilled into them a system of play...thus any player who's used to the system can just slot in immediately and play accordingly...

whereas, Chelsea has no system at all...the first XI are like a public listed company board of directors...all talented but no cohesion...and egositical like hell too...

Good points, however I think we ae over the "something to prove to chelsea" stage, we are well and truly beyond having to prove anything against them. We have the belief we just need to cash in on it. We really need to demoralise the lesser teams this season and create an invincibility the way Chelsea have in the past two seasons. Difference is I think now they are starting to have niggling doubts.

Chelsea reminded me a bit of Houllier's side, with Owen and Heskey up front. Owen at the time was a world class striker who liked to play off the shoulder of the last defender using his blistering pace and his finishing to score an amazing amount of goals while Heskey ran his socks off and did a huge amount of off the ball running to drag defenders out of position.

Owen was great at receiving long passes from Gerrard and finishing off the opp, a tactic Chelsea used more than once yesterday, with Lampard looking to play in Shevchenko at every opportunity.

Never mind all that, according to most other football fans, we still play crap negative hoofing football.

Of course, they knew f*** all about the game to begin with

very, very good point. Strangely I suspect we won't be seeing the press going on about "Hoofinho" or "long ball Chelsea" the way they did about GH, even though I think Moaning is a more defensive tactician than GH.

Aye, agree with that. I think Mourinho is philosophically very close to Houllier: it's only their wingers that add more flair to the team.

The fact that we finally have a SQUAD full of quality is what makes me excited about this season. We have 4 central midfielders who can interchange, wide, men with pace and can actually afford to rest Sami and Carra. One goalscoring striker and we will be as good as anyone in Europe.

i disagree... we haven't proved we can match Chelsea in the league over a duration of a season... if we had we'd have won the title at least once in the last couple of years... but i agree that we're getting to the point that Chelsea is doubting themselves, but until we take the title we haven't proved anything except we can beat them in one game
