taken from the echo.........

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Benitez and chief executive Rick Parry will attend a hearing tomorrow which will decide whether Mark Gonzalez has been given a work permit.

The Chile winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Real Sociedad after Liverpool failed in their attempts to win a work permit for the 21-year-old, who was signed from Spanish side Albacete.

A panel assembled by the Department for Education and Employment will determine the case, with Liverpool hopeful the player has now proven his suitability to play in the Premiership with his performances in Spain this year.

I am presuming that recently we have submitted a work permit application that will have been rejected as he does not meet the basic criteria and what we are actually awaiting July 5th is the result of our subsequent appeal.

Would I be right?

Not sure if this is an appeal or that sufficient time has now lapsed for the dept of education / employment to reconsider.

I just find it so incredibly strange that the Home Office can release convicted criminals without permits into society yet some lad who wants to kick a ball about gets this kind of response. Arsenal, meanwhile, (alledgedly) payroll Beveran who facilitate permits for players that suddenly end up in Arsenal shirts.

Fingers crossed that the panel see fit this time!

Disgraceful if he doesn't get accepted this time.

Last time we wanted to bring him over on a loan deal with the option to buy. That means we ourselves weren't 100% if he would make it, the fact that this had to do with his injury is irrelevent. I can accept last years decision, i won't be able to accept this years if it's turned down again. Don't think it will be though, as they usually go through.

Can I just ask, if he wasn't a registered player of ours last season, and was only on loan, how were we allowed to loan him out to Sociedad

Thought he was registered as ours?

I'm not sure. Didn't Parry say in his last article that it was just a loan deal?

Initially they only wanted a loan deal - with an option to buy at the end

Ah, ok. I didn't think we could buy him without the permit.
