  1. I didn't realise Didi was a such an important man of letters.
  2. I'm not trying to defend Gerrard but how do you know Carragher is the better person?
  3. I think you can contrast that with some of the players that he is (lazily, in my view) compared with - i.e. the likes of Keane and Souness.
  4. I don't follow why that's relevant to arguing Gerrard should play CM.

    Our Midfield

He has picked his best CM pairing in the last two league games - Alonso and Sissoko.
  6. One thing that did amuse me yesterday was when Riley produced the red card and the main commentator was convinced it was for Sissoko. He was all excited, only for Smith to point out that it was a straight red for Ballack.
  7. Agree with that - I said at the time the Sheff Utd result was a poor one.
  8. He is clearly not suited to LM or the second striker role but I think he offers more at RM than he does at CM.
  9. Agree with that. I also thought Alonso carried on from his substitute performance mid-week.
  10. I don't think you can say that today. We were up against the meanest defence in the league away from home and Gerrard and Kuyt both had gilt-edge chances.
  11. With the strikers, I would rather we established two identifiable alternative partnerships - i.e. Bellamy & Kuyt; Crouch & Garcia - and avoid mixing up the four too much.
  12. I'm not so sure about that. There have been hints in the Echo that Rafa is willing to let him go if a reasonable offer comes in.
  13. I'm certain I read that Diao was in the bag before the France-Senegal game albeit he was only going to come over to England after 6 months. (That plan got scrapped because of an injury concern over Gerrard.)
  14. I don't see why. They will have known Rafa is an advocate of rotation before they signed and assuming we progress in the various competitions then there should be plenty of games to go around.
  15. I can't imagine Carra would have too many difficulties with his experience of playing RB and LB. Agger seemed to cope ok at St James' but I'm not sure who he was up against.
  16. I was thinking about how uncomfortable Sami looks defending in wide areas.
  17. I can't see Gerrard being keen - its one thing playing as a wide midfielder, another playing as a wing-back. I'd rather he played where you have Garcia with Finnan or Pennant taking his place on the right. P.S. Did you mean to have Hyypia as the left-sided CB, rather than Agger?
  18. Honest I'm not obsessed but there's not enough goal threat from that midfield for my liking.
  19. He got the better of him in the 4-1 defeat but in the 4 European Cup games and the FA Cup semi-final?
  20. I hadn't forgotten about that incident but as Sabre says I think Gerrard was partly at fault too.
  21. I thought he had a good first half yesterday - his passing was crisp and accurate. He seemed to lose his way in the second half.

  23. I agree he shouldn't be beyond criticism (Carra too for that matter), but at the same time if he has a few poor games it shouldn't automatically be assumed that this means he is past it. Its worth remembering that last season his form was as good as it has been at any time since the treble season.
