  1. I love this kind of summer thread. The two that stand out at Juve, every game, are Zambrotta and Cannavaro. Zambrotta must be the best full back in the world (either foot) and Cannavaro is just awesome. Last night the Germans got a free kick (when the 'foul' actually took place in the box) simply because the ref couldn't believe a little guy could jump so high without having committed a foul - the replay showed Cannavaro hadn't fouled.

    Alves

I really hope you're right. Having seen Alves plenty on the Spanish footie broadcasts, I have to say he's in a different class to Pennant. He would be amazing for us. Read an interview with him a couple of months back and he seems to have the right attitude as well. I would rather we just bust the bank and got him, especially if we would be saving money by getting Pennant in order to spend it on Kuyt. With Alves and Gonzales, the forwards we have would be scoring a lot more goals.

They really mean the German Hinkel, like they used to talk about the German Kuntz.

    Alves

He really really is. I'm already twittering on down my local about how he and Gonzalez are going to give us the ammo to win the title, despite, 1, being old enough to know better than make such a prediction; 2, living in an outpost of mancland, the kind of place where pubs have those crappy mirrors with an image of Cantona on them.
  5. Doesn't anyone else feel like me that Bellamy is a loathsome little s**** whom I wouldn't want to disgrace our shirt? I feel the same as when Bowyer was about to sign.

    Alves

If Alves was 12m and Pennant was 4m, I would say that's about right as Alves is three times as good as Pennant. He's the first player I have seen for ages who has made me sit up and say 'I want him to play for Liverpool, sod the fee'. I would love to see him doing what he did to Boro to all the Boltons, Blackburns and so on in the premier league.
  7. Everyone has known ever since that Alec Lindsay's goal should have been allowed. I was ranting about it at the time to my dad. As I was coming up 13, he wasn't impressed by my liberal use of Anglo-Saxon. Alec Lindsay ran a modest miners' pub in Leigh (near Wigan) for many years, although I think he left some time ago. Hard to imagine it with premiership players these days, but that was a typical post-career career in those days. Can you see Stevie going back to Huyton to pull pints in the Bluebell?
