  1. Played well, perhaps my expectations for spending record amounts on a defender are obviously too high, but if that laboured performance was one of his better ones of the season it doesnt say much for his previous, or for the future either As for the rather sarcastic response by the guy who's finger obviously slumped onto the caps lock button by mistake, I'd prefer to look at it like wasting an opportunity to get a tactical control of the table and give us options in the second half of the qualifiers to be more flexible, but obviously as you probably have only just begun to watch football I should give you a bit more leeway As for Benitez, its up to him to call the shots, switching Lucas for Alonso, Babel for Gerrard strikes me as being a bit risky, maybe even a bit arrogant when Athletico were going to have to push to get back into the game. Sometimes he's done similar things in other games and we've come unstuck I personally dont think those changes are going to appreciably improve our position against Chelsea on Sunday, I'd hope the players would be keyed up enough without having been saved for the last 20 mins. But its all about opinions and perceptions and not something I'm going to spit my dummy out about
  2. I dont get much enjoyment saying this but isnt this type of thing getting too frequent for my liking. It was three points thrown, we could of been comfortable and easing off. You can point out the defensive relapses alright but what shouldn't hide this result is the fact that Benitez was trying to play clever and we nearly lost all three points to our biggest rival in the table. Im quite sure I'll get flamed for it but doesn't change the fact. Chelsea is not til Sunday Oh and dossena is turning out to be a genuine liability, he may be one of those who needs time to settle but for £7m you expect to see some glimmer of class The positives? we didnt lose and Pepe Reina is absolutely world class
  3. He's admitted to his biggest flaw, he takes on too much, trys to run everything, I think thats fair comment Lampard's not half as talented but when he's on form he's been more effective for England and he was on Saturday and its not just a question of position Rooney's a bit like Gerrard as well, trys to get everywhere on the pitch, but he doesn't get any media stick whatsoever because, as we all know, the boy walks on water
  4. Still weak on the left flank despite Riera, back four do still have their 'blonde' moments and I'll feel happier when the Torres/Keane partnership starts to click because sooner or later its going to start eating away at the player I'm not expecting anything especially with the general state of finances but I'd be fascinated to see what happens in the january transfer window. I dont think Benitez has got it completely as he wants purely speculation, no real insight. Possibly another strike partner for]Torres and a left back. A lot depends on movements the other way and there are several possibilities there with alonso and the usual suspects, I'm not sure even Kuyt wouldn't be sacrificed if the opportunity arose
  5. why is he bothering to watch them though watch f***in a*** if its a match he wants to watch if its simply to be insulted then yes watch the scum by all means but he cant use that as a means to justify behaving like a t** I swear some people just want to be insulted
  6. Something odd happens to some people when they get into a crowd Pantomime time for the grunts hardly a life is it
  7. Seems to me that the one thing that unites all parties in this farce is the need to manipulate information and opinion. Some can do it subtley, some, and yours is an example, are less subtle. The apologist remark is crass
  8. They are extremely talented writers I've no doubt but its their one dimensional expression of social realism which has hurt the city and the depiction of us to the outside world. The authors I mention frequently portrayed their characters as victims of the system, powerful yes emotive yes but so unrelenting and one sided that it tarred us all. The rights and wrongs of whether we should be concerned about that is another arguement but Liverpool has always had a more constructive, positive vibe about it which is rarely seen because its not been consistent with the way some want us to be seen. Thatcher and Hatton were sideshows, the city and its industries just didnt adapt quick enough to a changing world. Hatton thought he could just stop it, but he was just a bit of an opportunistic prat really
  9. To be honest the thatcher/hatton thing is a bit of a mute point, Liverpool was in structural decline alot earlier nothing to do with those particular personalities - they just took advantage of the circumstances to push their own warped vendettas I'd put it back to the sixties and yes spion kop has a valid point and no I'm not from Dorset Incidentally when it comes to giving the city a stereotype I also wouldnt look much further than to blame its favourite sons (and daughters) the one dimensional output from the likes of Lane, Bleasdale and Redmond have done as much dammage to the way we are perceived by the outside world Not that anyone is inclined to do us any favours
  10. I'll be blunt, the premise is absolutely insane, the only thing that prevents me from going totally stratospheric on this particular one is the knowledge that a mass boycott would be difficult to get off the ground and If doing nothing means not slitting your throat then yes quite possibly that is a better option. To be honest I've tolerated a whole load of your spin and paranoid crap about hicks spies and the like, even at times thought it funny to think of grown business men around a table planting people on internet forums to spread the Yankees message but this goes a step too far Go ed have your f***ing boycott, if the yanks dont care about the club do you think they'll be that bothered, or do you not think they'll just tighten the noose even more around the managers transfer budget to compensate. Whats to stop them selling a few players into the bargain eh - we could be in for months even years of attrition And once you've finished and you've got your way and the americans have gone, do you really think we can just switch those income streams back on like a flick of a switch, do you really believe that serious businessmen will risk huge investment in a club thats demonstrated an inate ability to turn on itself. Perhaps they'll understand the reason but it'll be one huge leap of faith for them to take on board such a fanbase prepared to rip into its management because of a perceived series of emotional grievances and unrealistic financial expectations With the stadium build junked you've got your chance, you go for it boy, but if you guys miscalculate and screw this one up the club you and I love so much will f***in suffer more damage than the americans could ever do for years. I dont understand this SOS thing maybe its a good thing maybe bad I cant decide but if this is a route they take then its lunacy And before I get accused of sympathising with those two as that seems to be the level of debate let me say this, I loave them, i loave the whole money thing and the way its f***ed up this sport, its killed a whole lot of dreams for me. I'll always support the club whoever owns it as I have for many years and if I feel that anyone is threatening it whether through malice greed or just plain misplaced ideal I'll speak my mind regardless Do you know what, I'll buy the kit for my kid when its his birthday and I'll visit the shop when I'm up there because for me its about the club, actually nothing else matters YNWA
  11. Sorry about this but I dont quite see the logic here On one hand you say the major reason for getting rid of the owners is they are taking us towards financial meltdown and your solution to this is to encourage a boycott which could possibly precipitate .... a financial meltdown Have I strayed into a parallel universe by mistake This kind of arguement has potentially serious consequences which could damage the club whilst the owners would just sod off onto their next project Have SOS thought this one through
  12. Thats plausible as they took the original deal from under DIC's nose but DIC have offered them a handsome profit since, one which would certainly be attractive enough if that was indeed their intention and a speculator always works on a quick turnaround, However Hicks rejected it out of hand. Its possible but i'm not convinced. I think Gillett wanted to buy the club, pulled Hicks in because of his experience in building stadia, because of his greater financial clout and because Moores didnt believe Gillett could manage it all on his own, only for plans to be beset by problems in the financial markets that make postponement good business sense (for them that is). I'm not really a conspiracy theorist At the end of the day the result is the same and its really bad news for us
  13. Yes and the reasons why run a bit deeper than just our lack of width, but that discussion is for later on in the season
  14. Thats hugely speculative. I'm afraid the money men don't view your emotional detachment from our owners in quite the same way. If the business plan holds water and Hicks and Gillett dont mind paying the price there will always be a deal done. Could you also explain what their real strategic plan was then because thats an intriguing sentence. Are you saying that it was never their intention to build the stadium, yet the accepted wisdom is that its the stadium build which would yield them the biggest margin for profit, What would be the other reason or reasons? or am I mis reading that comment As for the rumour - if true - oh bugger that hurts the club as well
  15. In Babels favour its must have been very difficult to come on and make an impact in a game like that
  16. Paradoxically, given the luck we've had maybe he should
  17. Reina Carragher and yes...Kuyt
  18. We've turned the corner
  19. Could someone in the ground shoot this ITV commentator please
  20. Alot of effort and very little invention. We have a team of sophisticated robots playing out a program I think after this we need to think about having a plan B
  21. Putting a bit of gloss on it, Liege are actually working their skins off
  22. You got that half right, Torres movement is up to scratch but his penetration hasnt matched it ......yet
  23. Thats completely exagerrated and you know it, he mentioned the private thing once right at the start after both Benitez and Gerrard had publicly announced their interest in Barry and after that he was just responding to press questions. How dare he after all barry is only his club captain and he is only club manager what a f***ing nerve Mind you at least he doesnt go off on one in public slating his own CEO
  24. and as for Benitez?.....oh hang on thats different
  25. I dont think they'll even contemplate selling until after the stadium is built, something which I think they'll do by hook or by crook (by crook if their previous is anything to go by ) You are right about Benitez's position, unless of course he walks out out of frustration with the internal politics
