http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3624185,00.html Espanyol have snubbed an offer from Liverpool for Spanish international Albert Riera. The Reds are believed to have tabled an offer of around 12million euros (£9.5million), but that falls considerably short of the Primera Liga club's valuation. Riera enjoyed a successful loan spell at Manchester City in 2006, but has flourished since returning to his homeland. He has missed out on Luis Aragones' squad for Euro 2008 but has impressed when given a chance with the national side, scoring a spectacular debut goal against Denmark in October 2007. The winger has recently expressed his desire to secure a move to a bigger club but, along with club-mate and fellow Liverpool target Sebastian Leto, has been told in no uncertain terms that he will be going nowhere unless a substantially higher bid is received. Price tag "We are very disappointed with the quotes made by the player last week," said Espanyol president Daniel Sanchez Libre. "If a player wants to leave then they should speak with the club, not the press. "If a club wants to sign Riera then the price will be 24million euros (£19million), and that figure will not change." Riera has a contract at Montjuic Stadium until 2011 and could now be punished for his outspoken comments. Espanyol are contemplating fining the player, but as he is currently on holiday they are trying to resolve the situation with his agent

http://sport.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Foo...-agent-on-Juve/ Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso’s agent will hold talks with Juventus this week, the Old Lady’s president revealed on Wednesday. Giovanni Cobolli Gigli confirmed the persistent rumours suggesting the 26-year-old may be on his way out of Liverpool this summer with Juve cited as his most likely destination. Alonso’s representative, Ianki Ibanez, will meet with Juve’s deal broker, their managing director Jean-Claude Blanc, and a decision will then be made whether or not to press ahead with a deal. Gigli confirmed: “His [Alonso's] agent is arriving in Italy in order to speak with Blanc. "We can't deny that we're interested, but there's always the problem of getting value for money. "Blanc is working on this and on other possibilities." Juve remain in the market for a holding midfield player after missing out on the signature of Mathieu Flamini to Serie A rivals Milan. Alonso is rated at £12 million but reiterated recently that he would remain at Liverpool, unless he is told otherwise by his manager Rafa Benitez.

http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=707317 The 24-year-old has established himself as one of La Liga’s most promising attackers over the past few seasons, earning interest from several clubs across Europe. Tottenham boss Juande Ramos is known to be a keen admirer of the former Barcelona trainee, and has long been linked with a move for the former Barcelona trainee. But according to AS, the Reds are preparing to swoop for the ex-Levante striker, who was recently called up to Luis Aragones’ Spain squad for EURO 2008. Rafa Benitez will be looking to strengthen his attacking options for next season, as Peter Crouch and Andriy Voronin are near-certainties to leave Anfield this summer. Zaragoza’s relegation means Garcia will almost definitely be moving on, and although his contract contains a release clause of around ₤12 million, compatriots Ramos and Benitez could be forced into a bidding war for their fellow Spaniard. With the Blanquillos preparing for a mass exodus, Benitez may be doing quite a portion of his shopping at La Romareda during the off-season. Argentine attackers Diego Milito, Andres d’Alessandro and Pablo Aimar could well find their way onto Rafa’s wish-list, and the latter could be keen to link up with the man who coached him to two La Liga titles with

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N...080520-0812.htm Liverpool Football Club today confirmed that Swiss international defender Philipp Degen will sign a contract with the club on July 1. The right sided full-back - who will represent his country at this summer's European Championships - is out of contract with Borussia Dortmund this summer and has opted to begin a new career on Merseyside from next season. Degen, 25, spent four seasons in his homeland with FC Basel before his move to the Bundeslga and will provide competition for Steve Finnan and Alvaro Arbeloa in the right-back role at Anfield. Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez said: "Philipp is still young but has gained great experience from playing in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and on the international stage with Switzerland. He also played in the Champions League during his time with Basel and so is used to top level football. "He is an offensive player with great energy and a winning mentality. His strength is going forward and I am confident he will be prove to be a quality addition to our squad." Looking ahead to the move, Degen said: "When I received the offer from Liverpool, there was no doubt I would accept it. They are one of the biggest clubs in the world and I am looking forward to the challenge of establishing myself there and playing in the best league there is

http://www.birminghammail.net/birmingham-s...97319-20854205/ GARETH Barry has moved a significant step closer to joining Liverpool this summer with Martin O'Neill set to take Peter Crouch in part-exchange. Barry is expected to join the Reds in a deal worth around £14million with Crouch and £8million coming Villa's way. There were reports on Merseyside today that Liverpool have formally made a £10 million bid – but O'Neill values the player significantly higher. Dialogue between the clubs is understood to have reached an advanced stage with an agreement close. Despite a keenness to hang on to his influential skipper, O'Neill has already sounded out Chelsea's Steve Sidwell as a cut-price replacement. Barry's recent words that he now has to be "selfish" in his pursuit of footballing honours told O'Neill that any hopes he has of getting him to sign a contract extension are fruitless. It means Barry will almost certainly be waving goodbye to the Villa Park faithful after tomorrow's game against Wigan. Crouch's return to the Midlands will soften the blow of losing such a key cog in Villa's machine. He was signed by Graham Taylor for £5million in March 2002 but struggled to hold down a place under David O'Leary, who loaned him to Norwich City and then sold him to Southampton for £2million. Crouch scored just six goals in 37 Premiership games for Villa and is now an England regular.
